Which of those ...
Let´s take a look at three possible trades ...
(1) Mavs trade Josh and maybe a future first for Ron Artest and Sheldon Williams
(2) Mavs trade Josh and Eddie for a Josh Smith
(3) Mavs trade Josh, Terry and either Stack or Ediie for Rasheed Wallace and Rip Hamilton (maybe adding a future first)
Which one would you bite?

Give me #3.
Kidd, Rip, Wright/Green, Dirk, and RWeed would be nasty good.
Diop and Damp and Bass get some burn.
JJB could even get 10-12 a night there.

1. Artest > Howard
2. Smith > Howard
3. Sheed/Rip > Howard
it's a no brainer in my book.
Artest and Smith are better players than Sheed and Rip, individually but can you imagine if we got two legit starters for Josh Howard (wow!).
Kidd/Rip/Wright/Dirk/Sheed
Terry/Damp/Diop/Stack
Big lineup
Kidd/Rip/Dirk/Sheed/Damp
Terry/Diop/Wright/Stack
Small lineup
Kidd/Terry/Rip/Dirk/Sheed
Damp/Diop/Wright/Stack
*drool*

problem is it would take Josh, Terry, Bass, Stack and maybe Jones to make the numbers work. Either that or put Damp in there somewhere. Wallace/Rip is lots of $$$$.
<edit> but I'd still do it if they would. It would put you in a get it done mode or rebuild with Kidd/RWeed with expirings and Rip with only one more.

Josh/Terry/Stackhouse works for Rip and Rasheed, with or without Bass. I don't think it's enough talent without Bass (and maybe even with him) but Dallas is in a poor position to add in a future first.
The 2010 pick is already gone and you can't trade two consecutive draft picks.
Maybe you could meet that requirement by trading like this:
Josh/Terry/Stackhouse/No. 1 in 2009/No. 1 in 2011 for,
Rip/Rasheed/ No. 1 in 2010
But you really would have squat to rebuild around when you got to 2011.
If Detroit would do it, then I'd throw Bass into the deal.
The deal also works (after the trade restriction time passes) with Josh/Terry/Diop/Bass, which is probably enough to get the deal done.

Trade ID #4724136
Actually Josh / Terry / Stack are enough to get Wallace / Rip if you go by the numbers, though I agree it might also take Bass and maybe a future pick to get Detroit thinking about it ...

Crap, I'm probably jinxing this deal, but...
Would anybody do:
Josh, Stack and Bass
4
Artest, Thomas, and Francisco Garcia
This would add needed scoring and defense at the 2 and 3, plus gives us a scrub/role player back up for Dirk?

I'd take Smith or Ronny over Rip+Sheed. Josh Smith is young, would flourish with Jason Kidd feeding him, and is one of the more explosive players in the league. I've already said what I have to say about Ron Ron, he's the best defender in the game, he's ferocious on all sides of the ball, and he works his ass off. Plus, a one year experiment in his contract year could have him playing real well for us. Rip+Sheed doesn't appeal to me, both of their contracts are big and Sheed wouldn't fit. He wants minutes on a contender, not fighting for minutes with Damp and Diop, because he ain't gonna take any minutes from Dirk. Rip I wouldn't mind, but I'm not a huge fan of his. He is great in Detroit's halfcourt system where he can run off of screens and pull up, but I don't think he'd play very good basketball in the west.

I was under the impression that the trade scenarios proposed in the poll only included Josh Howard. Can I re-vote? =]

..eehh, people like me, dreaming about good trades..
my idea in onother thread..
to trade artest we have to trade artest/thomas, becourse thomas money is 18 mio next year (for 2 year). kings wants salary..
the only possible deal for damp .. artest/thomas (25mio) for damp/josh/stack/jones.. (kings become josh an salary, mavs become artest)
okafor is free agent so we make a deal with bobcats.. okafor/richardson for thomas/terry/bass.. (bass have only a one year contract, if he runs, charlotte can sign him for a multiyear.. terry goes for richardson and they become someone like thomas for okafor..)
okafor/diop
dirk/okafor/sigleton
artest/wright/george
richardson/green/foster
kidd/barea/lue
okafor is the a "big man" part, richardson is a good shooter from downtown and artest is a defender-beast and the mavs become BAD'Boys! kidd and nowitzki can become magic...
make my dreams come true...
