I think my favorite mavs games that I can remember are the following.

1A. Game #5 of the Utah series of last year, where they came back from a large deficeit to win the game.

1B. 1994-1995, I believe it was in April sometime. The Mavs with the 3J's played the Houston Rockets. The game went to triple overtime where the Mavs won (I think) and Jason Kidd pretty much carried the team on his back with an incredible triple double. I've been trying to find the game stat for that game, but no such luck.

it was a double over time game where the mavs won 156-147 at houston.

mashburn was the games high scorer with 42 points. popeye jones had 21 rebounds.

clyde drexler and kenny smith both had 29 points to lead the rockets.

i wish i could find the individual game stats for that game. let me keep digging.

Dallas at Houston (April 18)

Hakeem Olajuwon (anemia), Vernon Maxwell (anemia), Carl Herrera (right
hip contusion), and Lucious Harris (sprained right ankle) did not play.

Y'all ready for this???

Houston was up 24-19 after 1. Pete Chilcutt and Jamal Mashburn both
had 8 points.

Houston was up 44-33 when Dallas went on an 8-0 run. Houston hit 4
free throws to push their lead up to 48-41 with 2:37 remaining. The
teams traded baskets, including a 3 by Kenny Smith, and free throws and
Houston was up 55-47 at the half. Houston shot 46% FG and Dallas shot
38% FG. Dallas was out-rebounding Houston by 5. Chilcutt had 12 points
and 7 rebounds, Robert Horry had 7 points, Clyde Drexler had 8 points,
and K Smith had 9 points. Mashburn had 11 points, Jason Kidd had 7
points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals, Tony Dumas had 9 points,
and Lorenzo Williams had 8 points and 6 rebounds. Dallas' bench shot
only 6-20 FG.

Dallas opened the 3rd with a 14-5 run. Houston led 60-56. Houston
was up 65-60 with 7:50 left. Chucky Brown scored 5 consecutive points.
George McCloud got a put back and Houston led 70-62 with 5:45 left.
Brown got a dunk, McCloud hit a 3-pointer, and Kidd hit a 3-pointer.
Houston led 72-68. Chilcutt hit a jumper, K Smith hit a 3-pointer, and
McCloud got another put back. Houston 77-70 with 3:09 left. The teams
traded baskets and Houston closed the quarter with a 6-1 run. Houston
was up 85-73 after 3. Dallas was only shooting 39% FG.

Dumas opened the 4th with a 3-pointer. Mashburn made a free throw,
Zan Tabak got a put back, and Dumas hit another 3. Kidd added yet
another 3 and Houston led 87-83 with 9:13 to go. The teams traded
baskets. Drexler converted the 3-point play and Kidd made a free throw.
Mario Elie drove for the slam and Kidd hit a 3-pointer. Houston was up
94-89. The teams traded put backs and Mashburn made a lay up. Houston
96-93 with 6:05 left. Popeye Jones converted the 3-point play to tie
the game at 96-96. Dallas took the lead on (what else) a 3-pointer by
McCloud at 99-96 with 4:50 remaining. For the quarter, Dallas was
shooting 5-5 3-pointers and 70% FG. Mashburn drove for 2 more. Horry
ended Dallas' run with (what else) a 3-pointer. Drexler drove for 2
and the game was tied at 101-101. Mashburn made a free throw and Kidd
hit yet another 3-pointer on Dallas' 3rd attempt. Drexler missed a 3
and McCloud made 2 free throws. Dallas led 107-101 with 1:39 left.
Houston missed on two 3-point attempts and Mashburn made 2 free throws.
Drexler made 2 free throws and there was only 1 minute left. Kidd fed
McCloud for the lay up and Mashburn made 1 of 2 free throws. Dallas
was up 112-105. Drexler nailed a 3 with 34 seconds left. Mashburn
made 1 of 2 free throws. And Elie hit a 3. Popeye hit 2 free throws
and Dallas led 115-111 with 25.1 seconds left. Drexler missed a 3, but
it was Houston's ball out of bounds. So Drexler went and hit another
3-pointer and Dallas was only up by 1 with 14 seconds left. Kidd made
2 free throws and the Mavs fouled Drexler. He made both of his free
throws. Scott Brooks made 2 free throws and Dallas was up 116-119 with
8.3 seconds left. Sam Cassell nailed the 3-pointer with 1.9 seconds
remaining. Drexler blocked Kidd's attempt and we headed into overtime.
119-119.

McCloud opened the quarter with (what else) a 3-pointer. Horry made
2 free throws and Chilcutt hit a 3-pointer to give Houston the lead
at 124-122 with 3:46 left. The teams traded 4 points and Houston led
128-126. Drexler converted the 3-point play, Elie hit the 20-footer,
and K Smith made a lay up. The teams traded points and Elie made 2
free throws to give Houston a 139-128 lead with about a minute left.
Game over, right? Wrong. Kidd hit a 3. K Smith missed 2 free throws.
Mashburn drove for 2. And Brooks made 1 of 2 free throws. Houston
led 139-134. Kidd stole the ball and nailed the quick 3 from the
corner. Drexler made 2 free throws and Houston led 141-137 with just
21.6 seconds left. Popeye got the offensive board and put back on
Dallas' 3rd attempt. Horry made 1 of 2 free throws. Houston was up
142-139 with 7.3 seconds. And Kidd nailed the 3 with 2.5 seconds left
to tie the game. Drexler missed at the buzzer and we had a second
overtime! [What a game!] 142-142.

The teams traded several misses to start the second overtime. Mashburn
drove for 2. The teams traded misses and K Smith hit (what else) a
3-pointer. Houston led 145-144 with 3:08 left. McCloud drove for 2
and Chilcutt hit the 20-footer. 2:20 remaining. Mashburn hit the
turn around banker. Drexler missed driving. On Dallas' 3rd attempt,
Mashburn drove for 2 and was fouled. He made the extra to give Dallas
a 151-147 lead with 1:20 left. Horry airballed the 3 and it was Dallas'
ball out of bounds. Kidd was fouled driving and made 1 of 2 free throws.
Drexler missed the 3 and Kidd made 2 more free throws. Horry turned
the ball over and Kidd drove for the slam and the win! Dallas 156,
Houston 147 in 2 overtimes! What a wild one; what a game!

Where to start. The teams set the NBA record with 28 3-pointers made
in the game. The previous record was 23 3s. Dallas' 156 points was
a team record. Kidd's 8 3s made broke the old record of 7 (by Derek
Harper and just tied by Lucious Harris on Saturday). Kidd became
the first Mav to have 3 triple doubles (Mark Aguirre had 2 - and in
different seasons). Houston scored 14 points in the last 35 seconds
of the 4th quarter. Dallas scored 13 points in the last minute of
the 1st overtime.

How about that Kidd! He had 38 points on 12-27 FG, 8-12 3-pointers,
and 6-10 FT, 11 rebounds, 10 assists, and 3 steals in 49 minutes.
It was his 3rd triple-double in just 5 games and 7 days. His neck
started bothering him late in the game and he received treatment on
it right after the game.

Jamal Mashburn was the high scorer with 42 points, including 7 of the
14 points in the 2nd overtime. He shot 16-37 FG, 1-6 3-pointers,
and 9-16 FT and had 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals in 53
minutes.

Popeye Jones ripped down 21 rebounds including 9 offensive as Dallas
out-rebounded Houston 85-63.

George McCloud filled in nicely for the injured Lucious Harris (who
was filling in for the injured Jim Jackson) and had 25 points on
9-20 FG, 3-6 3-pointers, and 4-6 FT.

Lorenzo Williams had another fine game with 14 points on 6-8 FG and
2-2 FT (he made his free throws!) and 14 rebounds including 8
offensive in 53 minutes.

Tony Dumas had a nice game off the bench with 16 points including
3-5 3-pointers in 22 minutes.

Not to be lost in all of this, Clyde Drexler also had a triple-double.
He had 29 points on 8-24 FG, 1-7 3-pointers, and 12-12 FT, 11 rebounds,
11 assists, and 3 steals in 51 minutes.

As one of the mad bombers, Kenny Smith had 29 points on 9-16 FG, 5-10
3-pointers, and 6-8 FT and 6 assists.

Pete Chilcutt and Chucky Brown also had good games. Chilcutt had 22
points including 3-5 3-pointers and 11 rebounds. Brown had 19 points
and 14 rebounds, but also had 6 turnovers.

The loss was Houston's 5th straight home loss.

Quotes

Jason Kidd: "I've never been in a game like this before, and I hope it
will be my last. But it definitely feels good. My job is to win games
and I'll let my Rookie of the Year [credentials] and my triple-doubles
speak for themselves."

Kidd: "That was a long game. It always feels good to win a good game
like that. That's the way basketball is supposed to be played. Last
time we played down here, I started hot. This time, I just wanted to
make sure I saved myself for the second half. "

Kidd: "We lost a lot of close games earlier in the season. At the same
time, we learned from those games, learned the hard way and now it's
starting to pay dividends. We're starting to win the close games and
that's what it takes to be a playoff team."

Popeye Jones: "I've never been in a game like that. We did everything
we're supposed to do in the last minute of regulation. We hit our free
throws. We were in their faces when they were shooting the 3s, but
they were going in."

Dick Motta: "We still blow an eight-point lead, then they lose an
11-point lead with a minute to go. I've seen leads dissipate - never
like this. I've never seen anything like it."

Motta: "I've never seen anything quite like the performance both of
these teams put on."

Motta: "All season long, the Mavericks have been coming back like this.
But we're not foolhardy enough not to notice they were without Hakeem
and Maxwell and then Herrera bowed out at the end."

Clyde Drexler: "It was an up and down game. Sometimes you just fight
hard and lose. After battling back, we became careless with the ball
and that hurt us."

Rudy Tomjanovich: "It's by far the most bizarre game I've ever been
involved with. It was one of the best comebacks we've ever had and
then one of the worst finishes we could have had trying to close out the
game."

The race for 8th: With the win, Dallas (34-41) made up 1/2 a game on the
idle Denver Nuggets (36-39) and is now 2 games behind. Sacramento (36-39)
also beat the Clippers and are tied with the Nuggets for the 8th spot.
The magic number is still 5. Any combination of Denver wins [or Sacramento
wins] and Dallas losses totaling 5 means that the Mavs are eliminated from
playoff contention. The LA Lakers play in Sacramento tonight and Denver
plays in LA vs the Clippers and Dallas plays in Seattle Thursday night.

Game Five against Utah is my hands down best Mavs game. The young guns upset the Old favorites in Utah after falling down 0-2 in the series and falling behind 17-points going into the 4th quarter...THAT was pure art...

Game 2 or 3, 2 years ago against UTAH. Mostly because I was at the game and had awesome seats. Also because they won and Shawn put a flagrant on Malone. Twas an awesome game.

I also remember a game many years ago the year after we went to game 7 in WCF. We were playing LA and Brad Davis hit a three that put it in overtime, then hit another 3 to win the game.

Ole Brad was a Laker killer.

Triple OT game w/hero Kidd...

I TURNED IT OFF about here <<teams traded points and Elie made 2
free throws to give Houston a 139-128 lead with about a minute left.
Game over, right?>>

Coulda shot myself the next day reading about it in the paper...

Haven't left a game early since (except for my least fav. game of all time... a couple seasons ago, early vs. Vancouver... UGLY UGLY UGLY UGLY UGLY game... left in 3rd qtr.. think Mavs lost by 30 or something)

Best game ever? Yup... game 5 vs Utah with the big comeback, sitting in the Mavs Club behind Reunion with a bunch of diehard Mavs fans... oh, the celebration when Karl clanked that shot!!!!!

Game 5 at Utah (Nash can barely walk but hits three three's in the fourth to bring us back)

Game 3 vs. Utah (Nash hits the go ahead runner with :22 left)

Last December, OT win vs. Spurs -- Timmy pulls up 5 feet behind the line to tie the game.. then Nash drops a 3 to win it.

See why we gotta take care of Stevie???

OH! Second best game I was ever there for (Game 3 being the best) would probably be 1/8/02 vs. Denver. I know -- Denver! But we were down by like 8 with less than a minute left and Dirk brought us home.. faked Ryan Bowen into the popcorn machine and rattled home a jumper after the foul, then put us ahead with a three point play.

Oh... another fav I almost forgot about, Michael Jordan's last game as a Bull in Reunion...

(I didn't turn this one off... I learned my lesson)

Ced Ceballos hits a prayer 3pt with guys draped all over him to force OT. I think this was AFTER Pippen got called for a 5sec violation trying to inbound the ball... (correct me if my memory's off)

Mavs killed in OT, prompting Phil Jackson to leave the bench long before the game was over...

GREAT GAME!

The game against the defening champion bulls where Ced hit the 3 to send the game into overtime. Mavs went on to win. That game kicked.

That 94-95 Houston game helped Kidd win his share of rookie of the year. Kidd was getting triple doubles in bunches at that point of the season... I watched that game with a couple of my buddies (including one current contributer to this board) and it certainly ranks as one of my all-time (if not the all-time) favorite Mavs game...

I'd say the game where Buck took Tim freaking Duncan to the hole on like 3 strait possessions to pull off the upset against the eventual world champ Spurs. Oh yeah, that was classic.

Dal 115, Orl 106 OT - at Dal
Michael Finley (Dal) had 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 turnovers.
Dirk Nowitzki (Dal) had 38 points including 13-16 FT, 17 rebounds, and 5
turnovers.
Christian Laettner (Dal) had 12 points including 4-13 FG and 14 rebounds.
Tracy McGrady (Orl) had 34 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Darrell Armstrong (Orl) had 19 points including 5-10 FT, 6 rebounds, 12
assists, and 4 steals.
Dal out-rebounded Orl 69-51 including 29-16 offensive.
Steve Nash (Dal, strained left hamstring) did not play.

This is my favorite because my wife took me as a birthday present. It was a awesome game. Dallas was down by 10 with less than a minute, and about 1/2 of the fans left. But Orlando missed a lot of free throws and it was a 3 point game. Then Fin hit a 3 at the buzzer and sent it to overtime. There was barely anyone there, but Reunion exploded. Then Fin fouled out in OT, but without Fin and Nash, the Mavs took over OT and won. It was Sweeeeeet!

Although I didn't pay any attention to the pregame hype or the development of the newest NBA team, my favorite game was Dallas' first game. We upset a good Spurs team in the debut of Reunion arena. I forget the score, but it was the first pro basketball game my dad and I ever went to together. Greatness. The Mavs were automatically my favorite team from day one.

WITHOUT question, my favorite game was UTA-DAL game 5, down by 17 with a quarter to go. I was lucky enough to be there and if you know what I look like, you could have seen me on Sport Center that night siting right right under the basket when Karla Moan missed the jumper holding my hands up and screaming with joy. As great as that game was, the parties that followed that night were even better.

Honorable mention -

*The game we beat the Celtics for the 1st time. Bird tore us up but we still managed to pull it out.

*The Allstar game Ro hit the 2 free throws to send it into overtime giving him the MVP and the West the win. (I know, not a Mavs game, but a great Mavs moment)

*OT win vs. HOU in 94-95

*Game 6 of the WCF in '88. Davis was a stud that night!

The WCF game (was it game 6 in 88) where Harper dribbled out the clock. They've been underdogs ever since, and I've been passionately hoping they win ever since.

My favorite game of all time...

The first Mavs game in the 2001-2002 season.

NAJERA STARTED.

It could be nothing especially because Najera had been a starter sometimes.

But OPEN a season beeing Starter is quite different.
