Romo is worth every penny and then some.
Wow, but the move needed to be made.
They better find some kind of option in the offseason for a backup.

The entire offensive coaching staff should be fired along with Wade Phillips. They made the decision not to try and upgrade at the backup QB spot and left this team with two pieces of shit backing up Romo.

Damn..I'm not even a fan - but that was way more painful to watch then anything that happened in the first half.

Can we just forfeit? At this point, I just want to make it to the bye week with no new injuries.

"I haven't made up my mind yet, it's not clear" on whether or not to bench Johnson at halftime
"It was obvious, lack of production" on the decision after halftime to bench him.
So, did someone just basically need to slap him on the head?
I don't think this is automatic for things to be hunky dory when Romo comes back after the bye. This is a tough pill to swallow and all or part of the team could be lost because of it. They'll have a lot of time to think it over and some will rise because of it and some will sink.
Hopefully they circle the wagons and unite.

What does NY do differently with their front guys that we don't/can't??? Surely their guys aren't that much better than ours!

Well I guess we are seeing why even the Vikings didn't want Bollinger.
I'm with Murph, why didn't we think it was necessary to sign a competent backup QB?

We've got Bennett so maybe he can help us draw up a few plays he remembers. Although if I was Bennett, I would have repressed all memories of my time at A&M.

this team is soft. soft, soft, soft, soft....having a starting qb down doesn't cause the front seven on defense to get beaten like a bunch cheap little ho's. they were soft under Parcels in '05 and '06, they got lucky last year for the first 10 or 12 weeks, and they're soft now.

And Aikman was spot on saying that the running game can't be THIS bad just because Romo's out. Our OLine is sucking. I'd always heard that OLinemen preferred going out and pummeling people in the run game. We must have somehow not gotten any of those guys.

Romo being out is a big reason as to why the running game is struggling. The safeties are playing close to the line of scrimmage. No one respects Bollinger or Johnson.. team's sell out against the run because they know the QB's can't get the ball to anyone. They also know that they can blitz at will simply because Johnson couldn't hurt them down the field at all.
Yeah, the offensive line has struggled, but a huge part of that has to do with having no QB. Part of it is also that they're not playing that great..but the bigger issue with the running game has to do with who's taking the snaps.

What an embarassing sequence in the second quarter when they coaches have told Johnson he's doen and Bollinger that he's in, and then pull Bollinger back as he runs onto the field.
What a joke.

Damn bollinger is just as bad as Brad Johnson... I didn't think it was possible.

Sequences like that can't really be good for Phillips' cred with the players.

I'm with Murphy here. I think we see a much different running game if Romo was in there. The last few weeks, it sure looked to me like offenses were selling out to stop the run because that was the only way the Cowboys could possibly beat them. I know if I were defensive coordinator and I was going against Brad Johnson, I wouldn't really worry about the Cowboys hurting me deep. If you can just completely forget about a team's most dangerous dimension, it makes it a LOT easier to shut down other facets of that team's game. Yeah the line isn't what it was last season, but I still think things get much better for the running game when Romo gets back.
And I'm not sure how exactly to put this, but is it possible that we overrate Barber just a little bit? I'm not trying to be critical of Barber here, but it seems like Barber is considered the feature back by the coaches, and I don't quite see that out of him when I watch the game. Barber to me just seems a little better when he's fresh, and that running style has to take a lot out of him. Also, less carries for Barber means we get a change of pace from someone else, and it exposes Barber to less of a pounding which would be good for his longevity. Yes, Felix being out hurts this strategy, but it really didn't seem to be happening even when he was here. And also, have we seen anything from Choice that says he doesn't deserve a few carries when he's the second back? All I see from Choice is him getting good chunks of yardage with every run, but for some reason it seems like the staff doesn't think he can play. I think he can play, and at the very least it could have given the Giants something different to look at and saved Barber some pounding.
The funny thing is we wanted to be a running-back-by-committee when we didn't have the personnel for it, and this year we finally have some pretty good backup running backs and our coaches refuse to really use them. I don't get it, and this is one of the many things that coaching staff does that absolutely confuses me. This is a small complaint today in that I don't think it would have changed the game all that much, but I'd like to see our rookies get some carries because I think both of them can play. In my opinion, using all of them does nothing but make the running game better and more efficient.

I didn't think Bollinger looked bad aside from the INT. Shouldn't have been throwin' in that situation anyway. Everyone was expecting throw. I guess this is what I get for false hope. Pitiful showing. I would've atleast felt better about going into the Bye with a competitive game. I just don't know what you can ask from the defense. They have pitiful field position all game long. I guess you could ask them to quit with the penalties. I guess good thing is we got out of it healthy. I'm not a bit optimistic about this season. We get most of our core guys back. I am a bit intrigued about seein' how Romo plays with Roy and TO on the field together.

Yeah, I do remember that replay, and it did look like that. Is that really supposed to be Garret's final call though, especially when we are talking about the most important position on the team? I don't know, maybe it just means Wade trusts Garret enough to make the big decisions on an area he feel that he doesn't know enough about, which could be a good thing. But at the same time, shouldn't the head coach be making a decision as big as whether or not the quarterback needs to be switched? Did Wade say anything about this in the press conference?

I think, especially with a defensive minded head coach, the offensive quardinator should always have the call on who the players to have on the field is. Obviously you can't change the QB without running it past the headcoach, but ulimately it's the OC's call, imo.

From the quarter I watched of Bollinger he looked like he was sorta in shell-shock...really held the ball way to long and got pressured for no good reason.
HOWEVER...He should have never been put in that situation...after the last two games Johnson's ass should have been firmly planted and bollinger getting snaps. I don't know how many (if any) he got...but if very few it's another black-eye on that coaching staff.
Thinking Johnson was going to be worth a crap was ridiculous. They should go get another guy right now because if Romo gets hurt again and they put BJohnson in someone should be fired.

Well if Romo gets hurt again that's the end of the season. The best bet is just to draft a kid and develop him. No good backups are available. All you have is the Jeff Garcia's and Brad Johnsons of the world. Guys who best games are behind them. I'd like Jeff Garcia now but by the end of the offseason he'll be finished. Kurt Warner will be resigned. Charlie Batch will retire or be resigned. Rex Grossman i'm sure will be out there. Wouldn't shock me if Chicago tries to resign him. They have no idea what they want to do with him. Matt Cassell probably will resign. I think at this point you just have to develop a quarterback. Maybe Bartel is a guy you can develop. We had Matt Moore. He looked solid with the Panthers.

I'm sure Romo will be fine the rest of the season. Once they get Romo, a healthy Witten and Felix Jones back, the offense will be rocking 30 points a week again, and it won't matter that the defense is giving up like 6 yards a carry, 200+ yard today to the Giants on the ground.
Also, they're @ Wash after the bye, but then they get Seattle and San Fransisco....2 extremely easy gimme games.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the cowboys rolling into the playoffs. I guess they need to win 5 more games though, to get in. They have @ WASH, @ PITT and @PHIL left on the schedule, so you're going to have to win one of those games.

I wonder how this game would have turned out if we let Bollinger throw those 2 interceptions that Johnson threw in the first half? At least give him time to find his groove - there's no reason to wait until we were down by 21 points to try something new... Besides, even Tony Romo threw 2 quick picks when he replaced Drew Bledsoe - sometimes you have to take your knocks before you can right the ship (I love mixed metaphors!)

Do you guys buy the theory that Jerry was in the locker room at half time because he was ordering the QB switch?
