The reason why I'm so "fascinated" with Bird is because he is a very rare breed. He was one of the absolute best playing the game, and then was able to come in and do a fantastic coaching job. Yes Indiana had a very good front court. But Bird was able to get almost every drop of effort out of his team. Pluse he instilled a killer instinct onto the players. He and they believed that they could beat just about anyone. Hell look what Croshere was able to do to the Lakers with Bird coaching him.
The Mavs need a lot of things. Personnel upgrades. More rebounding. More defense. But more than anything else they need more attitude. Get rid of this stupidass Nellie "we're just happy to be here" attitude, and replace it with "I'm going to not only kick your ass but the ass of the horse your rode in on." Bird brings that to the table.
