Great win! Yes, we had a large advantage on the line, but IMO the Mavs were (especially in the 1st and 3rd quarter) able to put the Spurs into the penalty pretty early.

Maybe so. I certainly don't think Damp goes weak, but Haywood's athleticism does allow him to dunk from a wider variety of angles.
Regardless, critiquing Damp (or Haywood) tonight is just picking nits. (Not saying you were)

36 points on 14 shots. Unreal. If LBJ/Kobe did that you'd never hear the end of it.

Damp is too big/old and just don't get off the floor like Haywood. Can't argue with the results tonight, but I loved what Woody was given out there tonight.

ok, we've talked about the problem of evil, and the extent of the atonement's application, but my real question to you is, "Could Jesus dunk?"

Well, it's kind of a hard scenario to imagine. Kobe's way too much of a ball hog to only shoot 14 times if he's on at all.

12-12 from the line and 12-14 from the field ... near-perfect shooting.

Hack him once, they'll call it once. Hack him three times, they'll call it three times. You can't expect them to stop calling it just because.

This game really didn't reveal anything new from either team, but we're up 1-0, so that's fine. I was happy to see Carlisle go to the zone so late in the 4th quarter, although Damp did give up a wide open 3 to Jefferson when he felt he was out of place, and had to recover back to the middle....
other than that, Caron had a nice game, and everyone on our squad played fairly good defense except Dirk.
3 more to go until we can get some rest, and study/cram for our next series.

Yeah, offensively he singlehandedly is stealing valuable practice time San Antonio really needs to be spending on other things as well.

Dampier definitely get off the floor that well. But what is weird about it is he usually wins every jump ball.
Dampier plays Duncan well because Duncan is not a bruiser. And he really isn't that quick. So Damp can "lean" on Duncan a lot and force Duncan to shoot very tough shots. Some nights, the shots fall for Duncan... but he just makes it hard for Duncan.
Haywood is taller than Damp but doesn't have his girth. So Haywood doesn't "lean" on Duncan as well. And Haywood "gambles" on defense way more than Dampier. Duncan kind of waits for those opportunities for you to get in a bad spot.

I will, and I'm also making the drive up for Game 2, so doubly good mojo for that one.

Only you could be this confrontational and bitchy after the Mavs take game one of the playoffs. Your life must suck.

The arena was absolutely electric tonight. If you haven't been to one of these games, get to one, it's like nothing else you've experienced. The crowd was into it, no piped in music/chants and it was greatness. Absolute greatness.. Can't wait until wednesday, it's like a drug rush that you cannot wait for another one. Woo Hoo!!!
Mavs win and Salvatore sucks!!!

Over at SpursTalk they're all bitching about the 32-12 free throw difference.
Morons aren't subtracting Hack-a-Damp, so its 24-12. Then they say Dirk didn't do anything to get his FT's. Maybe their bigs shouldn't foul Dirk when he's posting or when he's setting screens. He hardly got fouled on shots, it was a lot of off the ball fouls sending him to the line.
Duncan probably gets 2-3 more free throws in a typical game, but everyone knows there's a such thing as home court advantage. Get used to it. So 24-12 with home court advantage? Not really all that bad. Spurs don't try to draw fouls. Their an older team which does drive some, but know how to avoid contact to try to score. Look as Manu. He's extremely good at weaving through and then scoring, but he rarely gets laid out or hacked hard. He avoids it. Which makes sense because he usually can score. And Parker has a nice floater (which he used today a lot) which generally avoids contact with players. Of course he'll try to avoid most contact, he's not 100% yet anyway.
Duncan also is very much a hook or runner over someone. And I already said he probably could have gotten one or two more whistles.
