see Veruca is right. It has a genre, just a cloudy one. But rather common.

After all this discussion, I will have to see the film and see what all the fuss is about.

Yea, BWP was a ok phycological movie
phycological? Blair Witch Project was about algae? No wonder I thought it sucked.
actually dooby he called you a dick. Jerk is endearing as in the Steve Martin classic. That one shouldn't bug you so much.

<< of course it has a 'genre', name me the movie that doesn't!? >>
indeed, how would they market a genre-less movie?
but then again, some movies might do better without being marketed, or being made at all....
btw, "gosford park" was a good movie, imo.

Sigh.
Of course it has a genre, I just want Dirk77 to tell me what it is. He can't because there is no genre that Gosford Park is other than comedy or perhaps social satire (if you can call that a genre or sub-genre) and not all comedy (or social satire) involves "you may think there's no plot, that is a commomn plot of movies of the genre." That is the quote that started this mess.
Now if you are going to spout out "you may think there's no plot, that is a commomn plot of movies of the genre", you better be prepared to explain what that F'ing means, which I believe Dirk77 clearly cannot do because he won't answer my specific questions. While he spouts out "It is suppose to be about faux pas and the relationships of couples and the coherency of how they act, more so as a higher class society clasing with the lower class society (the butler/servant) in the movie." While that may be a theme or a even a plot (if that is what Dirk77 wants to call a plot, but that isn't what a plot is), that does not define a genre.

oh, i completely agree, dooby.
he has tried to reply to your simple question "what genre does this film fall in?" but in every response, he has gone on and on about plot, but nothing about the genre.
unless european films are a genre...

I haven't seen that movie, but I have two comments/questions. Could it be a dark comedy? And since I hadn't seen it, I searched it on the internet at google.com and found some reviews. Dirk77's comments (although not exactly word for word on the ones I read) were likely stripped from a review somewhere.

Maybe this link will help. Amazingly it lists the genres for the film.
Shocking.

Wouldn't a genre-less film be in the genreless genre?

Genre(s):
comedy
period
mystery
drama
Which, of course, is my point. "you may think there's no plot, that is a commomn plot of movies of the genre." makes absolutely no sense.
Thanks, Doc. I am done. Unless anybody wants to continue this charade further.

No Dribio, I didn't take anything from any review, sorry.
As I said Dooby, it is a SHADY genre! I suppose it falls under, like you said comedy or perhaps social satire. I guess I'd lean more toward social satire then comedy.

yes it does, the plot in Gosford park is rather cliche, well not so much cliche as common as the plot in most social satire movies, while that isn't a clear genre, I suppose it's some sort of genre, if not a lesser extent, category?
