I don’t see this as being opposed to what Townsend tweeted. Carlisle’s “plays” are all freelance in the flow offense. Rondo may not have been comfortable with the other players having the freedom to react as they saw fit. Especially being with a new team, he may have felt more comfortable being able to choose from a more rigid set of plays where he knew where everyone would be at all times.

I seem to remember that Carlisle was a lot more anal about calling plays back then. I think he wanted players to do things a certain way before he freed them to freelance
Because I also remember that he had some problems with Kidd at first until Kidd starting doing it the Carlisle way and then coach backed off

Did he actually back off? I read somewhere not long ago that the Carlisle-Kidd relationship was rocky and tense throughout Kidd's entire tenure. Apparently they were good at keeping it out of the public, but they would cuss each other out on a regular basis.

I expect some hard fouls from the Clippers tonight. Things are going to get chippy. Just gotta keep composed and not get dragged into that shit.

"You can't hit back if you don't swing. That's what I believe in. They've definitely been the more physical team & I don't know why that is. We talked about it. We gotta be more physical, we gotta swing, we gotta come out punching."
Ty Lue on Clippers punching back vs. the Mavs.

Going to be a long night. Someone needs to inform Luka that you can’t bitch and hustle at the same time. Save the bitching for after the game.

Losing this series might be a blessing in disguise. We need some significant changes. I talked earlier this season about how we didn't get easy buckets (off cuts, fast breaks, turnovers, etc.) and were over-reliant on the three ball. This is still true, the major difference these past two games is when they don't double Luka and stay at home on all our other guys they simply aren't skilled/ strong enough to create offense. We are a team that doesn't stand out in any one dimension, while the Clips (by far the superior three point shooting team statistically) are not complacent and going at our neck every single possession.

A blessing in disguise if Cuban runs it back again as is? What levers other than firing Carlisle can he pull? Luka is going to get the super max extension and KP is locking up cap space for the next 2 seasons. It occurred to me that we could be living in a world where both Trae Young and Deandre Ayton both have team playoff success before Luka F'n Doncic. That makes me ill..

I hope Luka figures out what is wrong with his shoulder. He needs Mr. Miyagi

So you're cheering for your team to lose, because you falsely believe that the reason they're not better is that they're choosing to be bad?
Good grief. Mavs fans are the worst.

A serious fan should never wish their team to lose unless it's specifically to tank for a draft pick.
Remember...a single win changes everything. If we win the next game, then it's one win away from eliminating them. Strange to think that with how they played last game, but it's actually just a simple fact. And we haven't lost in LA this series...

Random trailing thoughts after watching the Mavs the past four games...
We are woefully inconsistent, and I know I'm beating a dead horse, but the primary reasons are defense and lack of easy baskets...
We ended the regular season:
21st in defensive rating
21st in offensive rebounding %
17th in defensive rebounding %
30th in steals
26th in blocks
26th in pace
27th in possessions
28th in assist %
29th in % of points off turnovers
26th in % of points in the paint
8th in % of points coming from three (1st in playoffs)
What exactly do we do well? We limit turnovers and play decent on-ball defense. We have a superstar with the potential to be the best player ever. We have shooters who occasionally catch fire.
We desperately need an identity. We need leadership. We need grit.
I don't know what the answer is, but I do think it begins with major roster turnover. Bring in young guys with energy. Guys like Alex Caruso and Josh Hart. Bring in savvy vets with championship experience like Danny Green. Enough of this lukewarm BS the Mavs have been running out night in and night out.

Yeah, but the downside to that is will Luka be patient enough to go through some growing pains with the younger guys. And honestly, I'd want to see how Caruso plays without a LeBron and AD.

Clippers wanted the Mavs and tanked to avoid the Lakers
Now there are two possibilities:
1) They exhaust themselves going 7 games against us, then face the Jazz with over a week of rest
2) They lose to us.
That's it

Seeing how Bobi got so many easy looks against LAC Gobert should absolutely feast on the Clippers.

Cousins just ripped Gobert in the paint and ran full court fast break for an and 1 layup. Can only imagine how much he would have feasted on the Mavs

What's even worse is the way Curry is playing in the playoffs compared to Richardson
Mavs have to be kicking themselves in the ass for that trade now
Could have used his shooting big time especially on those open shots

Not surprised he’s thriving there. I was actually happy for him because I knew they would cherish his skills more than the Mavs would.
But I also thought (based on what we were told) that JRich was a great defender/spot shooter. I never watched him so I just assumed that was the trade off we were getting.

I knew Rich's jumper was broke. He's some years removed from when he was in Miami. He was a very good player there. He's not the same player. I had no problem with them trying to improve their defense and grabbing him. I just hate they traded Seth to do it. And i'm not even a big Seth fan it was just to be a lateral move or so I thought. It ended up being worse than a lateral move.

Yep it's funny you mentioned that because he was way worse than any of us expected.
I wonder if they can find a trade partner pretty quickly like they did for Wright after that debacle.
This article suggest just how bad that Richardson trade turned out to be and if I recall Curry himself stated that the Mavs were going to regret making this deal.
https://www.mavsmoneyball.com/2021/6...-low-in-game-7
All of the weight falls on Josh Richardson’s shoulders and after Game 7 against the Clippers, it’s more clear than ever: the Mavericks lost the trade, and they lost it by a wide margin.
Richardson had an up-and-down season, but the highs were brief and not all that high, while the lows were frequent and shockingly low. He averaged 12.1 points per game on 42.7 percent shooting from the field and 33 percent shooting from deep. This was supposed to be a guy that could stretch the floor for Luka Doncic and also guard the opposing team’s best perimeter guys. Richardson couldn’t do either of those things.
With the season on the line, Richardson played six first-half minutes. Those six minutes were terrible and shined a light on the entire Josh Richardson experience. He recorded 0 points (0-of-1 from deep), 0 rebounds, and 0 assists while turning the ball over twice. His two turnovers: a horrible inbounds pass that led to a Leonard dunk and a live-ball turnover when he tried to shot-fake and take his defender off the dribble. The latter put Richardson’s ball-handling issues on display for everyone to see. Check it out:
You simply can’t trade someone like Seth Curry for a guy that is unplayable in the biggest game of the last nine or so years. Will Richardson be on the team next season? Impossible to say, but I doubt it. Regardless, it doesn’t take away from the damage that trade did to the Mavericks this season.
