Now ay the Mavs can give up another 1st rounder....no way. Don't they still owe first rounders for Nerlens Noel, Rajon Rondo and KP?

The next first round pick we can completely trade away is 2025. 2021 and 2023 are on the way to the Knicks for KP. All other picks are resolved or second rounders.
We can, however, do a "pick swap" where the other team gets the higher of our two picks since we technically retain the pick (example: we pick 10. Wizards draft 20. We'd get the 20 and they'd get the 10.)

I hope the Mavs tried to do everything, and I mean EVERYTHING in their power to get Bradley Beal because that's who we should be going for.

That's the player I'm looking for when I hear about trades. Not a Tragic..........

So those picks for Nerlens and Rondo have been settled? We don't have to trade firsts for them anymore?

0% chance Wizards traded Beal for 1 pick and THJ and Winslow. Literally 0% chance.

That's not terrible for them. Two starters and a 1st rounder? Its believable. I don't believe the deal is real but if AD got a 1st and Ingram and Ball how much compensation should Beal get?

I mean, that was fun to watch.
Luka and Goran have really good chemistry together on court. I could see it being even more fun with KP.

Oh, Goran makes a big difference on offense, no question. Defense and health are the concerns. But I do think Luka needs someone to help shoulder the offense.

A source tells me that Dragic will be taken "in space," no compensation from the Mavericks. Space either being part of Mavs' $30 million cap space OR the $21.2 million Harrison Barnes trade exception. Mavs can decide which.

Wait.. so, if they choose to use the TE, then does that mean the Mavs can spend the $30mil still and then use the TE?... If so, then, I assume they'd have to spend quick. As in, before PHI and MIA insist on making the deal official?

I'm sure the trade can be put on hold until then, but this is utterly confusing. Better not be just cap space. Big fail if so.

Deal can't be official until the 6th.
We also can't use both 30mill in cap AND 21mill exception. Either spend to cap and give up exception or use the exception.
Basically looking at about 11mill in cap space

that is what I was worried about....If this is the case though, then what does it matter whether they use the TE or use space? Especially with the TE expiring this summer.

< anxiously awaiting the details of the Dragic trade.
With that Wizards trade looking to be fake, it seems we are just taking Dragic into cap space using the Trade Exception and not offloading THJ.
Which would mean no P.Bev, no Green, etc. Unless they accept $9mil over 4 years or something.... Maybe overpay to bring back Seth?

We are getting Goran Dragic for sure but giant question mark about the rest.
And this was Goran in April. As long as he is healthy...guy can still ball...

The Mavs punted this season away... I hope Luka likes Dragic better than he likes making the playoffs because this defense is gonna have to score 140 per night to win games.

Man I get we didn’t ge at big fish but you have been very negative on Dragic when there are a million worse things that we could have done. Out of the players left, who would you like to get that make a difference at this point ?
Dragic is still a good player and a very smart one. I think he will do well here and if he doesn’t the is gone next year. Again, nothing to lose but reading your posts youbwould think Dragic is complete trash.

Dragic shot 41% from the field last season, 34% from three, and cannot play defense... But "only here for one year" is a great selling point!
I would rather have Beverly.

I get it and I like that for but if we aren’t getting anyone else that’s a little better Bec is not going to do much for this team and would be here for 3-4 years.

Honestly lots of upside here. LIttle disappointing, but other than Kyrie and KD, not many guys are giving discounts. Lots of huge contracts that teams are going to regret. PLus, Dallas really isn't a FA destination
+Mavs get a quality starter who can play either guard position
+Doncic is happy to have his teammate
+Dragic's contract comes off the books next year
-used up 19million of our 28 mill in cap space, although the guys worth 10+ has really dried up.

Epic fail if he just comes into space. Like wow. Mavs had a huge upper hand in negotiating that as well. Let Cleveland be the team and buy out Dragic to get him for peanuts. Not this. Yikes.

The way I'm seeing this reported of either using the TE or using cap, it sure seems like we could spend the $30mil and then still use the TE to go over the cap.... Is this wrong for sure?

Powell/Mejri?/???
KP/Jackson/Kleber
Doncic/DFS/Broekhoff/Lee
Dragic/Hardaway
???/Brunson/???
About 10 mill in cap space left. Brunson may start. Dragic could play either guard spot.

The Dragic trade doesn't make much sense to me especially with the need for 3 and D wings and rebounding, and defense. My guess is that the Mavs found themselves out of FA options that were attractive, so they took a short-term rental on Dragic knowing his 19m comes off the books next year. Might as well spend some of that max cap space this year if you know you don't have anyone else to spend it on.

@TheSteinLine: The Mavericks will acquire Kelly Olynyk and Derrick Jones from the Heat as part of the Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade, league sources say.

Weird
If we got Olynyk too, then that's 100% of our cap. Dude earns 11.7mill

The Mavericks are huge fans of Goran Dragic but could not take him back in the Miami sign-and-trade with Philadelphia that sends Jimmy Butler to the Heat because Dallas feared losing its flexibility to make additional moves this summer, league sources say
