If we're going for a wing player, count me out on Childress. Guy can't shoot from deep.

Yup. It's not easy to get an above-average PF or C without overpaying, but Phoenix now has quality and value in the starting lineup at both of those positions. They're looking pretty good as far as remaining competitive for a spot in the playoffs.

Which is kind of weird, in a way. Phx really needs to get in the draft lottery and get a solid number 1 guy. Not be 8th-12th place in the West.
Mavs are a little in that boat but because they have Dirk they can hold off for a bit longer.

I guess so, but they've already got their own picks and the Lakers picks for the next couple of years. They still have room to get a player like Mayo, so they can compete for the playoffs and still have room to work with in terms of draft picks.

And all those picks will probably be mid to late first rounders. Just seems like the Suns are going to Rockets route. For the last several years the Rockets were just on the treadmill continually staying in theat "no man's land" of not terrible but not great.
Morey it looks like is now trying to climb the mountain again with Howard.
Phx is going to be very competitive next season. Kind of like they were the last couple of years with Nash.

Quite literally, with Scola and Dragic on their roster...

BTW Stein seems to be reporting that the Mavs definitely did lodge a bid for Scola, and are the only other team confirmed to have done so.
Not sure if that means the Cavs actually didn't.

Able to spread the floor...so no thanks

Yup.
Probably sounds annoying, but the Mavericks will likely continue to keep Delonte on the back burner. It seems like there's a general understanding that he's still in the picture, but it's likely that it's coming at the expense of their exception. They still have their remaining cap space left, so the rest of that is likely going towards a 2 that can likely move into the starting lineup.

BG, have you heard any whispers about the SG the Mavs like with that remaining cap space?

What's out there in terms of actual names that have been linked is pretty true to interest.
Seems like they're not fond of Mayo, unless the number comes way down.
Belinelli doesn't seem to be very high on their list either.

So, that $13M figure that Phoenix reportedly bid and won with sure does sound like it was specifically selected to be just slightly higher than Dallas' available cap space.

I'm actually kind of glad. Brandan Wright needs to get minutes for this team next year, and I don't know where they would have come from with Dirk/Brand/Kaman/Scola. Also, finding a two guard who can splash it in from deep is a much bigger priority at this point than having a 3rd guy to play at your best player's position.
