National HALO Champ Goes Pro Posted by: TaarrSkye

Bet you didn't even know there WAS a national Halo 'cham-peen', but there is.
His name is Dustin "Darkman" Langton and he has just secured a spot as the vanguard of professional game players. This week Dustin became the first gamer to negotiate a pro-gaming endorsement deal with Major League Gaming, (Is that copyright infringement I smell?), and LASR Accessories, makers of the GAMEPAK.
Dustin will now be the spokesman for said accessory maker, hawking the company's console backpack to other gamers across the country.
MLG's vision encompasses a world-wide console based gaming league that allows players to compete first in qualifying events, then regional tournaments in the top 8 US markets. (However, if you don't live in one of those markets, MLG provides a way for you to set up your own local tourney.)
If Major League Games has their way, professional gaming will become as lucrative as pro sports. Ostensibly, champions for each game would be able to quit their day jobs and make some serious cash via endorsement deals and tournaments. Could free agency and/or salary caps be far behind? *shudder*
So how do YOU get a shot at getting paid real money for beating HALO on Legendary... or mastering the control scheme for Madden 2004 before anyone else?

Ah, for the days in which all our dreams come true. Right now the only outlet for the "Professional Game Player" is a job in a QA department where you only get to play the game while it is broken. Or a reviewer. Oh wait that still isn't in a professional status. . .
