Ok. I've been jamming to some cool new blues players. That brought me to question who the best
blues players are. And of course, why wouldn't I post it to D-M.com?

I'm sure we'll get a lot Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix posted.

My favorite is Gary Moore.

There are so many I've never heard.

The best are Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix and Jake and Elwood (thanks Murphy...)

edit: to add the bit of genius Murphy included in this thread.

Clapton has some really good blues stuff.

Then you have the blues masters who influenced SRV, Jimmi and Clapton:
Muddy Waters
Buddy Guy
The Kings (Albert, Freddy and BB)

I agree with U2.

However, there are many local greats as well.

Here are just a few:

Jim Suhler
Mike Morgan
Hash Brown ( I do not know his real name.)
Josh Alan

SRV, Jimi, Eric and all the others you all named are great.
An up and comer on my list is Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

George Thorogood was awesome when he was young. Turned a bit too rock, then just lost it all together.

I think he was influenced by T-bone Walker.

The ape will likely be at Poor David's pub this Saturday to witness the Texas Blues Foundation. The lead singer/guitarist is practically related to me.

And mark Dwane Allman, Buddy Guy, and BB King down on your list of great guitarists. Robert Johnson, who sold his soul to the devil is also a legend. Does Frank Zappa count as a blues guitarist? Methinks Zappa could jam out with any of the greatest blues guys if he were so inclined.

Saw george thorogood has gotten back to more blues oriented stuff. He put on a great show at Billy Bob's last year. It's still electrified ad heavy, but lots of blues standards in the set along with his hits.

Has anyone mentioned John Lee Hooker, Grant Green, Scott Henderson, Jeff Beck, Muddy Waters, Robert Cray, Albert King, Johnny Winter,
Warren Haynes, Steve Cropper of Blues brothers and Booker T and the MG's fame, Albert Collins, Carlos Santana and the lesser Vaughan, Jimmy. (no, I'm not a music geek or anything )

Hmmm, where to begin. Can they really be serious about #'s 17 and 100. Also conspicuously missing are several jazz greats and anything vaguely resembling a classical guitarist. (At least the last one of these I read that was done by a guitar mag included Segovia...on the other hand it also included Head and Munky. go figure.)
Ok, rant over. I'll go back to my dark corner now.

I'm suprised to see so many blues guitar fans here. Does anybody play? I started 6 months ago. I'm not very good yet, but I love doing it.
