just a thought...
When posting a new thread in the mavs section, can we please ask ourselves a couple of questions: does this really need to be there? Can it possibly go in a thread that has already been created?
This site is going to have alot more posters this year than in previous years. If everyone's starting a thread in the Mavs Section every time they're too lazy to scroll down half a page, there will be a serious glut of threads in that section. Legit threads will be pushed further and further down the page until they're an afterthought. Threads will die with 5-10 posts in them. Their's really no need for that. Just recently, how many threads were there in the Mavs section concerning Dikembe Mutombo? How many threads have been in the Mavs section that either belonged in the Lounge or in the Around the NBA section?
Come on. Just think before you start up a new thread in this site's main section.

I would also like to put out a call to the moderators to lock some of the extra threads.

RE: just a thought...
This thread probably needs to go in the mavs section since most of the posters posting redundant threads in the mavs section do not come to the lounge.
This might be one non mav related thread in the mavs section but it might help getting rid of 20 other redundant threads.

Amen Murph and MFFL....someone needs to take a little more control over the ship. We ended up with 10 Mutumbo threads and Qcarfan bumping nearly every quincy/chad thread from last October (2002) for no real apparent reason...Hell, when AE called him out TWICE publicly on that...he continued to argue with AE....I just don't get it.
And you were right, murph. During the day yesterday, I noticed that we had 30 members and 50 "guest lurkers" on at one time. We're going to be inundated soon.
And you're right MF Forever, this thread needs to be posted in EVERY section so that everyone can get a look at it..

Great post. It makes my eyes bleed everytime this happens. It detracts from the quality of the board, and arguments lose any cohesion.

I really don't care what people do in the lounge. But people need to practice a little restraint in starting threads in the Mavs section, the Around the NBA section, and the Other Sports section.
And we can't have GRBH's eyes bleeding all over the place.
There's something here at this site that separates it from mavstalk, db.com, hoopsworld, and wherever else. It's quality threads..quality discussions from intelligent basketball minds. Too many mindless threads in the Mavs section will ruin that. They destroy any chance the site has at forming any legitimate basketball debates.
Of the 30 threads at the top of the Mavs section, 15 of them have less than 15 replies. There's no reason for this to occur.

Well said Murph. Maybe we should send this to the Dallas Mavs section.

I agree that this needs to be posted in the other sections. It's getting real ridiculous now. Think before you start a thread, and then think again. Please.

I think you guys are on the money -- we want people to feel free to participate and start threads, but take care to not create duplicates.

Can we get Murph's post added to each section and sticky-noted up on top?

Before starting a thread in the Mavs Section... Please Read
I noticed this thread posted in two separate places, and thought I'd comment.
Really, from my perspective, it's pretty simple:
1. If you want to post on a topic and you're not posting a reply in an existing thread, do two things. First, scan the first page of the appropriate section to see if the topic has already been addressed. Second, do a quick search by clicking "search" at the top of the screen and typing a keyword that would identify the topic. If you don't come up with anything, then post a new thread. Most of the time, if you perform these two steps, no one will have to jump on your case, because your thread will cover new ground.
2. Don't bump old threads unless you're bumping them for the purpose of stimulating legitimate discussion.
3. If you do decide to post, whether it's a new thread or a reply in an existing thread, have something to say.
