NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans Hornets star Jamal Mashburn will have arthroscopic knee surgery Monday, and no timetable has been set for his return.
The operation and rehabilitation will take place in Miami, where the 6-foot-8 swingman met with doctors this week, team officials said Friday. Loose particles will be removed from his right knee.
Mashburn missed all eight preseason games and has missed the first two regular-season games with a bone bruise on his right knee.
He led the Hornets in scoring last season, averaging 21.6 points. The All-Star played all 82 regular-season games.
Mashburn was one of five NBA players to average at least 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. The others were Kobe Bryant, Steve Francis, Kevin Garnett and Chris Webber.
