What are we waiting for?
There have already been 4 CBA call ups so far this season and there has also been 1 NBDL call up and we,The Dallas Mavericks, who lack size and have a spot open have done nothing.
Date Player CBA Team NBA Team
11/14/03 Sean Lampley Dakota Wizards Golden State Warriors 6'7 215 waived 12/14
12/10/03 Zendon Hamilton Yakima Sun Kings Philadelphia 76ers 6'11 250
12/13/03 Oliver Miller Dakota Wizards Minnesota Timberwolves 6'9 325
12/19/03 Kaniel Dickens Dakota Wizards Portland Trail Blazers 6'8 215
12/22/03
Nets sign Mikki Moore
After playing agianst the Bucks on Sunday 12/21 without a healthy C for more than 9 minutes NJ pulled the trigger and signed 7'0 235 lb C from the NBDL.
How many games have we played without our only true C? 5 games since he has been able to play at all, he played 3 minutes in his last game which we won against the Lakers. Our record without him? 1-4 while giving up points and easy shots by the bucket load...yet we have done absolutely nothing. I only ask one question....WHY NOT?
There are players available who could help us....there are probably 3 or 4 in the NBDL and there are at least 2 in the CBA. We have a spot open and we have an Icelandic guard that we don't need on the IL....let's cut Steffansson and sign 2 of these guys who have some size and maybe the ability to get better or at least provide some interior presence.
Guys who I think we should look at:
Ken Johnson - 6'11 / 235 /C / NBDL
Karim Shabazz - 7'1 / 240 / C / NBDL
Kevin Lyde - 6'10 / 260 /C /NBDL
Darrell Johns -7'1 / 285 / C / NBDL
Roy Tarpley - 7'0 / 275 / C / CBA
Leon Smith - 6'10 / 250 / C /CBA
If we are going to trade Travis Best then I say do it. Better yet when you trade Travis add Steffansson to the deal. There are some very decent PGs also available in the minor leagues who have a little NBA experience. And I seriously doubt they would be any worse than Travis Best has been this year. We need to become proactive to the situation before we find our team looking up at the 4th seed or worse yet looking up at the 8th seed and saying ...woulda coulda shoulda.

RE:What are we waiting for?
You would have to guarantee their contracts for the year. Which would suck if we have Sabonis in the bag. We would be paying a full year's salary to a player who would get released in Feb/March.

RE: What are we waiting for?
If we have a center in the bag, be it Sabonis or Hakeem, we need to pull him out quick.
Tarpley's CBA #'s (14 games):
Points - 16.6
Rebounds - 10.6
Blocks - 1.1
FG% - 58.8

RE:What are we waiting for?
Roy Tarpley in Dallas has been a bad mix. I hope he has turned his life around, but I get the point of the thread. The Mavs need to do something to shore up their lack of an inside defensive presence. I don't even mean a league leading shot blocker, but just anyone who can play defense in the paint at all. If the Mavs don't do anything, then it will be lay-up drill after lay-up drill every game this year. Good luck with all that.
