Hornets acquire Brazilian guard from Spurs

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- The New Orleans Hornets claimed guard Alex Garcia off waivers from the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.
Garcia, a 6-foot-3 Brazilian, played in two games for the Spurs last season as a rookie, averaging 1.5 points and 1.0 steals in 6.5 minutes. He missed most of the season with various injuries.
Before joining the Spurs, Garcia averaged 17.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists for Ribeirao Presto in Brazil's Paulista League in 2002-03 and was named to the All-Brazilian League First Team.
