Idle speculation as I await the draft...
What if the Mavs included the Knicks and Sixers in their deal with Washington (since it hasn't been formally approved by the league yet):
Dallas trades Antawn Jamison and Michael Finley
Dallas receives Kurt Thomas, Christian Laettner, Glenn Robinson, Samuel Dalembert, No. 9 pick, Frank Williams
Washington trades Jerry Stackhouse, Christian Laettner, No. 5 pick
Washington receives Antawn Jamison
Philly trades Glenn Robinson, Samuel Dalembert, No. 9 pick
Philly receives Michael Finley, No. 5 pick
New York trades Kurt Thomas, Frank Williams
New York receives Jerry Stackhouse
Dallas roster:
C - Bradley, Laettner, Dalembert, Biedrins (No. 9)
PF - Nowitzki, Thomas, Fortson, Najera, Walker
SF - Howard, Robinson, Wahad
SG - Daniels, Delk
PG - Nash, F. Williams, Steffannson
Okay, so the Mavs would have 17 players under contract, which is ridiculous, but look at the trade ammo.
Then the Mavs trade LA Walker/Robinson/Dalembert/Biedrins for Shaq.
C - Shaq, Laettner, Bradley
PF - Nowitzki, Thomas, Fortson
SF - Howard, Najera
SG - Daniels, Delk
PG - Nash, F. Williams
IR: Wahad, Steffansson
Amazing. If you could then turn around and convert any combination of Laettner, Bradley, Thomas, Fortson, Najera, Delk into a defensive-minded swingman or two who could stick the three (which I'm sure you could do)?
Things are really looking up for Dallas.
