Marquis Daniels was invisible on draft day 2003 when he wasn't drafted in the first 58 picks and was eventually picked up by top tier talent scout Donnie Nelson of the Dallas Mavericks. Major League scouts want to make sure he stays on the radar this year. Call it a "do over".
This time, it isnt basketball though and this time the major league scouts are associated with the National and American leagues and the ball isn't large and orange- it's small and white.
Daniels himself admits the move is crazy. "I remember watching Michael Jordan play basketball and laughing to myself. I couldn't tell if I was laughing at him or with him."
But talent scouts see promise in the young baller. His agent has already received five phone calls from teams such as the Marlins, Rangers and Red Socks.
"Daniels has definitely voiced an interest in pursuing this opportunity. He played baseball in college and high school and has quite an arm. His fast ball is comparable to Randy Johnson's"
Comparable indeed, but Marquis Daniels who towers over most pitchers at 6'6", is still almost 4 inches shorter than 5 time Cy Young Award Winner, Randy Johnson.
Look for Marquis to make a big decision before July 14th; not which NBA team he will be playing for, but whether he wants to play in the NBA or MLB.
