Default August 24th? Dal/NJ

Dallas trades:
PF Antoine Walker (14.0 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 4.5 apg in 34.6 minutes)
PF Christian Laettner (5.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.9 apg in 20.5 minutes)
PF Jon Stefansson (5.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.9 apg in 20.5 minutes)
Dallas receives:
PG Jason Kidd (15.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 9.2 apg in 36.5 minutes)
C Alonzo Mourning (8.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 0.7 apg in 17.9 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +3.6 ppg, -4.4 rpg, and +3.5 apg.

New Jersey trades:
PG Jason Kidd (15.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 9.2 apg in 36.5 minutes)
C Alonzo Mourning (8.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 0.7 apg in 17.9 minutes)
New Jersey receives:
PF Antoine Walker (14.0 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 4.5 apg in 82 games)
PF Christian Laettner (5.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.9 apg in 48 games)
PF Jon Stefansson (5.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.9 apg in 48 games)
Change in team outlook: -3.6 ppg, +4.4 rpg, and -3.5 apg.

TRADE ACCEPTED

Does this trade qualify as "Walker and throw ins?"

NJ gets a young point guard back and two expiring contracts, also eliminates Mourning's salary.

Would NJ do this deal?

I think NJ does it in a second, but the question is does Mark Cuban do it.

Taking Kidd AND Mourning would asking ALOT.

If you don't move another perimeter player out somewhere there is the potential for a nasty logjam. Be careful here.

I would pitch in 10dollars toward a billboard in downtown Dallas that says "we welcome Kidd back with loving arms"

Maybe Kidd is into the spectacle like Shaq

Well first of all NVE can only be had through a 2fer or 3fer since we won't trade Nowitzki for him.

Ideas would be

Laettner and TAW
Stackhouse and Bradley
Delk, Laett/TAW, Najera

I can't see that happening and/or us waiting for NVE to be packaged.

I might contribute but only if there was a picture of Toni Braxton in the background as well.

all the evidence is supporting you Doc.

1) Mark Cuban has stated publicly that he wants to be conservative with his money
2) Don Nelson is angered by Marc's sudden frugality
3) Mark Cuban has said "high dollar players with older contracts will be even more difficult, if not impossible to trade" meaning he doesnt want to get old guys with crappy contracts because we'd be stuck with them. Jason Kidd's contract is exactly that. His contract is good through 2009 and is maxed out.
4) There is a conspiracy theory that Mark Cuban dropped Nash in order to get Kidd. Nothing has supported that conclusion.
5) Regarding the Dallas-Kidd connection, my concern is the same as the issue of Shaq's list. Reporters first reported that Jason Kidd wouldn't be against a trade to a Western team with a shot at the playoffs, then someone made it up that those teams would be LAL, SAN, and DAL, and then ESPN stepped in and reported that Jason Kidd wanted to go to one of those teams, but Dallas is the frontrunner because of Mark Cuban's unlimited money, but neither part of that is completely accurate. ESPN reported it- it must be true although their line is "Kidd has expressed interest in moving to each of those teams in the past month" quoting a New Jersey paper that suggested that those teams would fit the description of winning Western teams. You can read between the lines but "not being against a trade to a winning Western team" and "desiring to be traded to Dallas, San Antonio or Los Angeles" is different.

the only reason dallas is the front runner is because of the amount of expiring deals they have...and dallas is interested in kidd, seeing that they've already contacted them about it...

I just detest how irresponsible journalists can be and how irrational some Mavs fans can be when trying to believe. Shaq was never coming here, but the irrational lusting of many posters here, combined with some bad reporting made us all think that Shaq would be a Mav when the chances were incredibly small.

you can only be had by the media if you want to be had by them...you didn't really expect for shaq to be traded within the conference, did you?

journalists don't care about truth, they care about the story and how many papers they sell...and that's coming FROM a journalism student. the shaq thing was never going to happen, but the Kidd deal is a lot more likely...and judging from what Kyle Davis told me today, Dallas is very interested in him and has thrown a preliminary offer out. he couldn't tell me who was in it, though, he didn't know many specifics.

I consider myself to be one of the realists here. With that in mind, it's unlikely that Kidd ever becomes a Mav - although not impossible...

It's unlikely for many of the reasons we have talked about. The age, injury, money, length of the contract, presence of Devin Harris, and so many other things make it unlikely.

However, IF Kidd wants to be moved, and IF Dallas is interested, something could happen. At least Dallas and New Jersey aren't rivals from the same conference.

At this point, as of today, my best guess is that Jason Kidd does not become a Maverick. We all know how fast things can change, but that's the way I feel at the moment. I do, however, believe that the Mavs are going to make a move, and I think it will be fairly significant.

You see, you have to consider everything though. I'm not a HUGE fan of Kidd, but we have to take some things into account here.

1. Can we get Kidd for cheap? Can you really turn down a deal for Kidd, if you only have to give up Walker and trash (I.E. Laettner, Delk, etc.)

2. Can we afford to let Kidd go to SA or LA? I will take on any contract from New Jersey to make sure that those two teams don't get Kidd.

3. HUGE PR move. Kidd returning to the Mavs would boost the popularity of this team beyond what is ever has been. The NBA is a biz, and we'd sell a lotta tickets which might help alleviate that 90 mil contract.

4. Writers would know that we are committed to team ball, and DEFENSE, which is one of Kidd's great strengths. Kidd, with Harris backing up, Daniels/Stackhouse, FInley/Howard.....that probably is teh best backcourt and small forward positions in NBA history.

I agree about being a realist ddh, but realistically, this trade could make a lot of sense. This comes from a guy too who thinks that Harris should be our starter. I think it's a long shot right now, and there are some negatives, but a lot of positives too if you look at all of the reasons why you would and wouldn't do it.

A trade does make some sense...I still want to make that clear. I would certainly support a deal, as long as the Mavs don't give way too much.

Getting Jason Kidd gives the Mavs more instant credibility, makes the team defense better, improves our offense, and doesn't even hurt the cap too bad for one year...and depending on what the Mavs planned to do with Walker, he may not hurt for several more. Truth is, I want Kidd here.

I just don't know that it is likely. I am one of those that believes that every trade is unlikely until it happens. But once again, IF Kidd is serious about being traded, and IF the Nets are serious about dealing him, and IF the Mavs are seriously interested, then sure a deal is likely because, as has been mentioned, it does make sense.

There is no point in having any fans make trade proposals. The truth is that Cuban and Donnie will make a suprise trade that no one sees coming. How many of the past trades have we seen coming?

I would guess that Mavs will end up getting a SF or a PF, no C or PG as we expect.

We should cut out the entire Trade and Draft Board because it's pointess.

But during the offseason the trade and draft board can be the most entertaning part of this forum. I like it as long as reasonable trades are posted.

Also, I wouldnt expect cuban to get another center... but i think a backup PG is very probable.

talk about a soap box, can't we mavs fans just dream? Kidd is what we need and I do agree, it will almost be just Like the Shaq situation, I hope we don't end up empty handed but if we do, say hello to the Lottery, yes the Lottery!
