How about just saying that they loved their parents and were taught great values by them and then introducing them. I mean it's the RNC and not last comic standing. Why would the Bush twins be expected to do a standup comedy routine?

I don't know about you guys, but to me Laura didn't look that happy when she took the stage. She had quite a few words for the girls, and I'm not sure they were good ones.

I thought the "Sex and the City" joke was embarrassingly inappropriate, considering the audience, and it would not surprise me to hear that it was not scripted.

I don't know. Maybe I'm biased because I think the Kerry girls are much hotter. But I think they hurt more than they helped last night.

As far as the speaking aspect, the Bush girls were a big flop last night. Their jokes were either lame, inappropriate, awkward, or all of the above. And why do they need to tell a bunch of jokes, anyway? Just introduce your mom and sit down, eh?

Agreed.. there wasn't any need to try so hard to be funny.. I just felt like they were delivering lines like an award show, and it clearly didn't seem to me like something they'd written themselves based on how they delivered it. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. Either way, in my opinion, two things should have happened:

1) Let them write a speech.
2) Approve it and put them on, or reject it and don't put them on.

The ball got dropped somewhere there. The end of the speech was fine, the attempts at humor were too forced. I didn't think the material was inappropriate.. if you're gonna try to be funny, might as well have Jenna mock herself a little bit for the drinking stuff and have them make a fairly innocuous Sex and the City joke. I just didn't think it went over successfully. Seemed forced. It would have been better for them just to make the simple comments about their mother and growing up, like they did at the end.

I don't disagree. However it sounds like some RNC staffers were putting the pressure on the Bush Twins to speak. It sounds like this was if not necessarily forced on them, it was forcibly suggested on them.
