Default Warriors waive Laettner

http://msn.foxsports.com/story/3000568

just saw it...unbelievable

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The Golden State Warriors waived forward Christian Laettner on Thursday, less than one month after acquiring him in an eight-player trade with the Dallas Mavericks.

The Warriors got Laettner, Eduardo Najera, two future first-round draft picks and the draft rights to guards Luis Flores and Mladen Sekularac from the Mavericks on Aug. 24, for Erick Dampier, Dan Dickau, Evan Eschmeyer and the draft rights to Steve Logan.
Laettner was traded from Washington to Dallas earlier in the summer. He averaged 5.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 48 games for the Wizards last season.

Laettner, a member of the original Olympic Dream Team in 1992, has averaged 13.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists in his 12-year career with Minnesota, Atlanta, Detroit, Dallas and Washington.

what's so unbelievable about it? Laettner is old and is cheap to buyout because he's on his final year. GS never wanted him, he was just an expiring contract to match Damp's new one.

more unexpected than anything... i thought they might just let him play the final year of his contract and let him walk...take his salary off the books

As unexpected as the buyout of Eschmeyer. It may happen any time in the next 33 days, but I guess we never know when.

I don't know why you say that, it has been rumored since the trade was made.

They were probably trying to be nice to L8 - releasing him before training camps gives L8 a chance to catch on with a team with playoff possibilities. He should be able to play another season or two with the right team.

Like as a back up PF here? Most likely not, but if Hendu can't go...

If we can buyout TAW & Esch, and if AJ agrees to sign up just as a coach, I don't mind us signing L8 for the veteran's minimum.
The team would then be:

Terry/Harris
Daniels/Stack
Finley/JHo
Dirk/L8
Damp/Bradley/Booth/DJ

IR: Pavel, Dickau, Hendu

We're pretty good as we are, but with L8 we'd be marginally better as we address that little bit of uncertainty at the backup PF spot.

I would prefere L8 over Henderson.....for the veterans minimum maybe a 2 year contract (more likely a 1) he could be a nice addition

If we had a place on the roster I'd prefer Harvey.
