i like the deal...avery johnson..a good fit, definitely.
if it's van exel or camby, i like the deal.

I like the deal as is...
Add the possible addition of Camby/Anderson and it's icing on the cake.
But, I like the deal between us and Denver alone too.

The funniest thing is, no one reported that dallas would have a chance in all of this. Peter Vescey should just be fired because he definitly didn't do his job on this one.

It is just the Mavs and Nuggets...unless the league is allowing the Mavs-Knicks to continue. I do not know of any precedent for that though. The first rounder will be a less than stellar pick anyway. The million bucks is chump change for Cuban.
As a long time Mavs fan, I can truly say how thankful I am to have Mark Cuban around. Viva la Mavs! Viva la Cuban! Well done.....damn fine job today!

P.S. I am excited...can ya tell?

just saw on espnews that this is a done deal...
NVE, lafrentz, wahad, johnson
for
Howard, Hardaway, Harvey, 1st rounder, and $1 million bucks
and apparently, NVE agreed to restructure the last two years of his contract!

Fish just posted this on the LMF board:
I guess (pimping again) you oughta get to FOX Sports 1190 right now....
NO MORE DEALS
Nick is a Mav for good
And the Duncan chase is over....(at least for now) because LaFre is the prize instead

he is saying that nellie has lost his mind, and that this is a downgrade and all this other crap..
the callers that are calling in are really in favor of it and shooting down fish's comments
pretty entertaining really

How the hell is this a downgrade?!
LaFrentz over Howard
Van Exel over Hardaway
Johnson/Abdul-Wahad = more bench production than Harvey
Aside from our withdraw from the Dunkin Donut chase, I can't see how this is possibly a bad deal for the Mavs.

The local radio in Waco is saying that Mark Jackson got shipped to the T'Wolves. Anyone hearing this report? Did we force Minny into a deal and if so what did they give up?

LMF has the Minn deal posted too. From espnnews. But what did they give up to get him?
Let me be the first on this board to say it: One More Shooter.
Ok guys, you got it. Let us see what you do with it.

i don't get it...the mavs get better on the inside and the outside.. get better offensively and defensively..they also get deeper at the 1 spot and the 2 spot...and deeper on the frontcourt..
it makes no sense..yes, there are some worries..but how can you objectively look at the deal and not like it?
coop is a fat ass anyways

Welcome to the bizarro world of Nellie ball.
We will see 3 guys, 6'11 or above, standing outside the 3-point line and bombing--effectively while 2 point guards, whip around inside and occasionally bomb themselves.
And that's whether the Camby/Van Exel thing happens or not.

If this is a "downgrade," then it was a downgrade in my personal life to get a date with a cute med student, and get set up with another girl in the same week. Got news for ya Fish, or as the Hardline used to call him Mike Fiction, SA was not giving up Duncan, no way no how. La Frentz is an immediate upgrade. Van Exel can give a blow to Nash andFinley. Plus you can always use a quality guy like Avery. Wahad? Who knows but all in all I give it an A-.

I don't get it either. How is this a downgrade for the Mavs.
As Murph pointed out, the Duncan chase was a pipe dream. Sure, it would have been nice to have a go at him, but we needed to think about now, not 2 years from now.
This deal allowed us that.
How is LaFrentz not an upgrade over Howard?
How is Van Exel (who I hear is going to reconsruct his last 2 years to suit the Mavs) not an upgrade over Hardaway? He can handle more minutes than Hardaway too, allowing Nash some rest. Cuban was on the radio saying that Van Exel is a Mav and that there afraid Nash is running down. So, no NVE to NY for Camby.
Johnson is a very reliable 3rd option pg.
Wahad's contract is the only downer, but I don't see that as a downgrade in anything. I wouldn't put it past Cuban to try and move him. But, I imagine they skip on resigning Buckner this summer and use Wahad instead. Might be better actually.
The only thing I hate giving up is Harvey, but he couldn't see a minute's action here so it's not like we're losing a huge piece of the team.
I do feel bad about Hardaway, but this is simply a deal we couldn't pass up.

Coop and Newie Thought it was a poor deal because we gave up our salary cap flexibility. Plus they thought we should have included Buckner instead of a first (Denver wanted Buckner).

mffl...the first round pick isn't going to be a impact player in the NBA in all likeliness...as low as the pick will be..there's a better chance that it will be a bust than a decent player.
i think the mavs should have shipped buckner as well..i don't see a place for him..well, not too much of one
but just because you don't like that one little aspect of the trade, it shouldn't sway your opinion of the trade over all..they're just looking for something to b*tch about

What I find incredible is every sports guy in town is an idiot to the people on this board.
I also think Fish gets e-mails from Cuban about the trade as Mark flies along in his jet, it has to say something about the reliability of Fisher's information.
I just don't find the testosterone filled Hardline as captivating as it once was. After a while fart jokes do get old.

I'm at work right now so I can't really break down the deal the way I like to but my first impressions are very favorable.
I didn't say I agreed with Coop or Newie, I just reported what he said.
