Title Match: Raising Arizona, The Jerk Winner: The Jerk Of course, I didn't need a bracket to tell me that "The Jerk" is the greatest comedy of all time. Also, if Airplane would've been in a different bracket, it would've easily made it to the Final Four.

first round: Best in Show vs Swingers Office Space vs Election In the Smart bracket, these are 4 of the 5 best comedies in that group. Sorry, but Bull Durham doesn't belong as a comedy. Second round: Old School vs Ghostbusters Caddyshack vs Ground Hog Day Stripes vs Rushmore All in the SNL Alumni... My final 8: Dumb and Dumber over American Pie Raising Arizona over Big Lebowski Groundhog Day over Old School Rushmore over Vacation Best in Show over Dazed and Confused Election over Christmas Story Holy Grail over Airplane Slapshot over The Jerk ------------------- My Final 4: Dumb and Dumber over Arizona (the Broad bracket was EXTREMELY weak overall) Groundhog Day over Rushmore (difficult...very difficult) Election over Best in Show Holy Grail over Slapshot The Finals: Groundhog Day over Holy Grail 3 vs 4: Election over Dumb and Dumber 2nd place game: Holy Grail over Election |

Holy Grail wins easily in the final over Austin Powers
my last eight were: spaceballs v. strange brew --> spaceballs (pretty close, but nobody in this bracket had a chance against the other winners.) ghostbusters v. austin powers --> austin powers (probably would have fallen to Blues Brothers, but BBs road was just to tough. BB was taken out by Ghostbusters in sweet 16. Shrek would have run away with it. Was Beverly Hills Cop really the only Eddie Murphy movie!!??) harry met sally v. spinal tap --> spinal tap (spinal tap by a landslide. This and Office Space are the only ones worth watching in the smart comedy. And only because they are the least smart. Smart comedy???? There's no such thing!) holy grail v. the jerk --> holy grail (this was a tough bracket. Blazing Saddles, Holy Grail, Slapshot, The Jerk - any might win on any given day) How anyone can watch Dumb and Dumber or the Princess Bride is beyond me. |

Animal House on a last second shot over Strange Brew (which only advanced because Ferris Bueller overslept)
The Jerk over Fast Times in the other semi Animal House over the Jerk for the title. Man....there were some very unfortunate early round match ups. Someone ought to spank the seeding committee this year. They clearly failed to consider the national poll in seeding determinations. |

Spaceballs was not mel brooks' best. But his worst is better than most. Spaceballs might also be the only other time (outside ghostbusters) that rick moranis was funny.
groundhog is definitely greatness. But groundhog lost on a technical foul for having too much "romantic" in the comedy. |

and who decided to give stripes the austin powers / animal house / vacation / caddyshack road to the final four? brutal. i ended up with: ferris bueller vs. caddyshack fast times vs airplane (what can i say, a teen of the 80's) caddyshack vs. airplane a roger murdock sky hook at the buzzer gives airplane the title.

From 1968 to 1977, Brooks was genius. I loved High Anxiety, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. But after 1977, he was very spare to average at best.
