The Heat are hot - they have won 16 of their 22 games. I expect another hard fought game and I hope the Mavs will prevail.

Yes, I think this will be a hard fought win for the Mavs.

The 3 days off benefits Nash since he needed rest. And it allowed 3 practices for the new guys to get further adjusted.

I just hope they don't come out lazy looking. Sounds dumb, but they've done it before, let's just hope the new guys change that from here on out.

We've played the Heat well in the last few meetings though haven't we? Still, there a rejuvinated team and a VERY defensive minded team.

Still, the Mavs pull out the win.

Mavs can put a little more distance between themselves and the T-Wolves since Minny lost to San Antonio tonight. I've been rooting for the Heat to make a post-season push, but that's going to have to wait until after tomorrow's game

While the Heat's overall record looks bad, they have the second best record in the East since the start of the new year, and this is going to be a good test of the new Mavericks. The Heat play slow-it-down, half-court, "playoff" style basketball, and given the hole they are trying to climb out of they are will be very motivated.

If the Mavs don't come to play, the Heat will grind out a win. But I think the Mavs mass offense is going to be too much for the Heat:

Mavs 99
Heat 88

Yeah, I'm alittle worried about todays game. Miami's been playin really well. I think we'll win but it'll be a hard fought contest. Low scoring too imo.

Miami 87
Mavs 90

I don't remember who said this before, but someone said that they think the Mavs could beat everyone of the rest of their opponents. I know it's not realistic to say the Mavs will win out, but if you look at the games one at a time, there's no reason they couldn't.

Oh yeah...Mavs win 107-98

The game is not on FSN in Sherman, where I live. They have the annoying habit of not showing Saturday night games on FSN up here, occasionally. I threatened the cable operator about it last year and even emailed Mark but there is apparently some contract thing going on with the system up here. That's what the cable manager told me. This area is lumped with Oklahoma as far as a viewing area. Don't get me started. It's a sore subject with me.

Weird game so far... Finley has 10 points on 5-6 shooting but can't be found anywhere else in the box score. We only have 4 rebounds as a team (Dirk 3 of those) and Miami only has 6 rebounds.

Weird game for sure - Miami has never shot this well that I know of. Our defense is nonexistant.

Hmmmm..... Pinto keeps talking about us being exposed.... Miami killing us on the boards.... hitting 2/3 of their shots. Yet we are only down by 7. Very winnable game for the Mavs.

You can't count on being able to turn it on. There were way too many defensive lapses out there. And Nellie leaving LaFrentz out on the court to get his 4th foul was huge.

I know we can't count on turning it on. But it's not like we are getting blown out of the f'n gym. Just grab a few more defensive boards and actually move their damn feet on D and we are right back in it.

Maybe too much practice time got the new guys into the habit of the Mavs third quarter slump.

Against any other team I would say we have an excellent chance for a comeback but this is the Heat. They specialize in playing defense.

Oh well I never really expect to win every game. I would like an entertaining game however.

Whether they manage to come back and play close or not, this is really disappointing to see them get pounded like this. 3 days to prepare and this is the show? Very disappointing. Well into the part of the season where they have to come focused and ready to play every night.

Crap happens - who would have expected the Lakers to be swept by the Bulls? I hope Nellie leaves Nash on the bench the rest of the game - we have a game tomorrow and he needs the rest.

I concur with the time of death.

Late in the third there was Najera, NVE, Wang, Finley, & ?? (I didn't notice the other player much). Early in the third it was our starting 5.

Bayliss, you're right about the not overreacting. And the obvious answer is that they're getting used to the new personnel.

But still. The Minnesota loss, plus this performance are raising some doubts for me about their mindset, and it's losing games like this that costs homecourt advantage.

Miami is not that different from a Portland or a Utah--probably not even as talented as Portland or as experienced and cohesive as Utah. If Mavs can look past the Heat at a time when they definitely need to be minding their Ps and Qs, it certainly looks like Nellie has his work cut out for him in terms of getting them to focus and bear down.

What else do you see that would've contributed to this bad a showing?

The refs have been a joke. They did not cost us the game, they have called the game just as poorly for the Heat. But how in the world can you miss Mourning throwing the elbows - not once but two complete rotations.

Good way for Nellie to get the T - punt the ball!

I assume he didn't blame Dirk for getting a second T after he fouled out or the fact that Nellie got HIS second T on the same play.

And both times are cases of not getting "up" for the game. You know, and I know it... we get up for big games. And let's face it... seeing Miami was not a "huge" game for the Mavs. And after hearing Garnett was not going to play we shut it down. (And don't give me the "every game matters" argument... the big games I'm talking about are to the best teams in the league... the Kings, Spurs, Lakers, T-Wolves, etc.

<< Bayliss,

For getting tossed. Dirk came down the lane twice, fouled twice... called once.... then they called two BS (Dirk's exact words ) calls... one and offensive foul on Dirk and the other a defensive foul. Dirk was pissed and rightfully so... so he got T'd up after he fouled out... and that set Nellie off.

Well I expect we'll be focused for tomorrow. That was most of Denver's chance to win - the fact that the mavs might look past them. Should be a sharp game by the Mavs tomorrow.

And what "cost" us the game was 1-13 stretch to open up the 3rd period.... going down by 20 to the Heat is like 25-30 to most teams because the Heat literally suck the life out of each possession.

<< But this is exactly the kind of game that matters. You know it and I know it. Big games are for paper tigers. >>

But young teams (and the Mavs are VERY young) don't understand that on a fundamental level. They SAY they understand it, but they still think they can turn it on at any time and win.

Well I guess the Lakers are paper champions then. (And **no** I'm not comparing the Mavs to the Lakers in that regard.)

All teams have lapses or letdowns... the Lakers, Kings, TWolves, and Spurs have had terrible games. So why should we be any different?
