Will we replace Christie if he retires?
There are rumors floating around that Christie might be done for good-- that he might be old enough that he just doesnt want to fight through another recovery process.
Latrine-- AJ has just told sources that Spree won't be coming to Dallas, and Spree won't get out of bed for less than 1.1million, according to sports illustrated
Ruben Patterson-- he can change a game, he can defend, he can bring hustle. He's now very available. The only problem is that he's available because he's complaining about playing time (19.2mpg) and he's known as a hooligan.
Jarvis Hayes-- probably won't make it out of there, but according to the all-too-reliable New York press "Jarvis Hayes, stuck behind Antonio Daniels and Caron Butler, looking like a top candidate to be on the move"
Someone else?

since this site has been down I've been kind of out of tune with the mavs. Has Christie been hurt? I haven't seen him in at least two games (well, he hasn't been in the boxscore on nba.com anyway)

sprewell's at a homeless shelter, trying to find food to feed his kids.
i don't want the nanny molester here at any price. patterson can stuff it.
however, if the wizards are willing to part with jarvis hayes, i'm all over that deal. great outside shooter, can stretch defenses. athletic, versatile, and still on his rookie contract. don't know what it would take to get him, but if its not too much, get it done.

the mavericks knew they had this risk in the first place. Now would you rather have finley or Christie. And so may were ready to see michael go. tisk tisk

Thats right, zhartman, we all wanted Finley gone because we thought that he was injury-ridden.

If you believe AJ, they will not be bringing anyone in. Of course, that is exactly what the Mavs want you to believe. It has been their m.o. to deny deny deny and tehn BWAMO....a six player trade.

Do we need to bring in anyone? Won't this just allow more PT for Powell, and make us a 'bigger' team? JPo looked ready to contribute on Saturday (my first time to see him play). I think we could get by and give the youth extra PT to keep everyone happy. The only thing I can think of is sign a veteran for their leadership...I really don't have a clue who that would be at the time.

I agree, Alby
I agree with Alby, see Christie move to the "coaching staff" for 3/4 the year to return for the playoffs in solid form.

Is Jarvis Hayes good? I would go after Ruben Patterson, if AJ can handle him, I think he would add the defense and intensity that we need at that position.

After looking, Hayes is a set up jump shooter without a great shot and a low field goal percentage, who needs him. HEre is Hollingers writeup on Patterson in ESPN:
An energetic, up-tempo player, Patterson put together one of his best seasons in 2004-05. At the defensive end, he continues to be a stopper on the perimeter, with outstanding quickness and a bulldog mentality. His Defensive PER rated well despite the crumbling of his surrounding cast, and his toughness set a good example for the younger Blazers.
Offensively, Patterson's first step is outstanding, which allows him to be a decent scorer despite the complete lack of a jump shot. He hit 53.1 percent from the floor, mostly on driving lay-ups and fast breaks, and put up one of the best True Shooting Percentages at his position despite his usual terrible performance at the free-throw line. The only misgiving is his consistently high Turnover Ratio, the result of having to drive into crowds to get most of his points.
Patterson has had a checkered history, but he behaved himself much better last season and battled his way through 70 games with a sore knee. That performance may earn him what he really covets: a ticket out of town. Patterson is under contract for two more years and still is a very effective player, but with all the youth on the wings, he doesn't figure into Portland's plans. Teams will be much more likely to trade for him if he proves he's changed his stripes.
Though he might be more of a headache than he's worth, if what we need is a defensive specialist, Ruben fits the bill.

Eman, Ruben Patterson would be a great fit. Do you remember Nellie's comments in 2003 regarding Patterson being "as dumb as a rock?" Portland's Patterson and Randolph were brutal on D in that series, and if I remember correctly the Mavs had to win a game 7 at home? I like Patterson, he could be a championship piece.
Then again...I don't see the Mavs replacing Christie.

Unless there are further injuries or Stack is out for much longer I do not see Christie being replaced any time soon. Give Powell and Marshall more playing time for now.

Is there anybody we had on our summer league teams that we might bring in to replace Christie? I didn't see any of the games, so I don't know if there were any guys who jumped out as possible replacements. I wouldn't mind seeing us add a lights-out 3 point shooter either, a la Steve Kerr, even if he had no other skills. Just to have that option of bringing the guy in off the bench.

I would rather have the players we have than Fin. His ppg is 8.0 and hes played in one less game than christie. I think quis is better than fin and needed Fins min.

Darius Rice 6-10 Swingman (weak on D, great shooter; probably in Europe now)
there's always
Jon Steffanson (probably under contract in Russia)
so basically there's nobody with those talents..

If Christie retires, can I assume correctly that his salary can be packaged in a trade for a replacement? anyone?

Darius Rice comes up on the Florida Flames website of the NBADL.
He's not on their official roster though. Still at 6-10 I don't see how the guy can play the 2 against NBA guards, I believe he was a 2guard in college. Made some big shots. He's pretty fast, shot wonderfully in Vegas at times, but definitely not a 4.

My bias is that I've got an autographed baskeball with Rice, DJ Benga, Josh Powel and Pavel's autographs. If he was on the ball I could actually buy one of those plastic case things and show off my pathetic Maverick Rookie Ball.

He is the kind of veteran role player that would add strength to our lineup without subtracting anything or significant minutes.

Wouldn't mind seeing Patterson come here for cheap. He is incredibly energetic and plays decent individual defense.
I would rather see us make a move for a difference maker though. a.k.a. Pierce

If we were going to get a lower level replacement player, Patterson would be ideal fit because of his energy and defense. I don't want anyone that isn't an all-star to come in here and take shots away from Dirk.
