The Season in the Balance...Cowboys/Panthers
Can't think of a single reason why, but I have a good feeling about this one. I'm expecting a fairly low-scoring game. 20-17 sounds about right. Hope we're the ones with 20!

Well, Parcells shouldn't have been nutless...there was plenty of time to run one more play especially with a TO. I'm just not impressed with Parcells game management.

Should be an interesting finish. I almost want to say we have outplayed them thus far.
Wouldn't be by much if it was, though.

Man, I haven't even watched the game. Julius has 188 yards rushing today? Where did this come from? Well, I'm going to watch the last 2 and half minutes to see if we can tie the game.

Does every game have to end like this????
I swear - in all my years watching the boys, I can't remember a season like this. How many games have been decided by 3 or less?
c'mon offense - c'mon drew - don't screw this one up

Well, we are in field goal range. Although with Cundiff, I never really feel like we are in field goal range.

Well, if it turns out to be two blocked FG's today, not much you can put on Cundiff..

It didn't really look to me though like anyone blocked that one. I think the best defense you could give for Cundiff was that he had to redirect that one so that it didn't get blocked.

We've contained Peppers better today than I thought we would. I figured he would have had 10 sacks by now. He only has 3 right now.

It looked like it spun funny, like it was blocked. Oh, well. Let's cash it here and go to to the playoffs (I hope!).

I don't know. From that one angle (the one from behind Cundiff), it looked like nobody touched it.

After watching it on TiVo about a dozen times, I'm going to go ahead and say that the Cowboys got damn lucky. The ball definitively changed directions. It was a perfect kick by Cundiff that glanced off the body of a panther player...

Yeah, that's the thing. All this win does is tease us. If we do make the playoffs, which is looking a lot more likely after today, I don't see us getting a win in the Wild Card. Nice to see a good performance though against a pretty good team.

Why? It's not like the team that they will play is capable of playing much better than the Cowboys just played.

Mainly because I've seen too much mediocre play from the Cowboys lately to be optimistic about their ability to make any noise in the playoffs. Not to mention, the Cowboys have too inconsistent of a kicking game to count on in close games.
But they surprised me today so I guess they could surprise me if they get into the playoffs. I'm not counting on it though.

The problem for the Cowboys is the Redskins are beating the Giants today and play Philly next week. The Giants play in Oakland. If the Giants win the division and the Redskins end up 10-6, it may not matter if the Cowboys win next week or not. Better hope for an Oakland upset, otherwise alot of things have to fall into place.

How did Julius Jones rush for 194 yards against a top 5 defense? Where did this come from when he hasn't had a 100 yard game this season?

Another player who has been quiet lately had a big game today - DeMarcus Ware. NFL.com has Ware down for 3 sacks and 3 forced fumbles.

We still have wildcard chances, even if Washington gets in ahead of us. We need at least one loss from TB, though. Looks like they might tie today. If they do, we would need them to lose to NO next week to have a chance.

Does New York hold the tiebreaker over the Cowboys? I know Washington has the tiebreaker over Dallas, but I'm curious about what happens in the event of a 3-way tie for first in the NFC East. Are we last for any tiebreaker scenario?

In what scenario's can we not make the playoffs, if we win next week? This is pretty confusing .

Been studying this for a while.
In a three-way tie atop the division, Washington wins based on their record in common games.
The way I'm seeing it, what it boils down to is this. Dallas needs ONE of Washington, Carolina, or Tampa Bay to lose next week. (This is assuming the Vikings don't win out. If they win out, we get into a three-way tiebreaker, which gets more complicated. It gets all the more complicated, still, since if Minnesota wins out, they would actually take the division if Chicago loses this week. Then it would be Chicago instead of Minnesota in the three-way tiebreaker.)
Of course, this also assumes Dallas wins next week.
It's getting pretty complicated, but I think Dallas would take a tiebreaker based on the FOURTH tiebreaker, "strength of victory." I'm not sure how it's calculated, but I think Dallas has an edge on Caro, TB, and Minnesota.

I believe Strength of Victory is the combined record off all the teams that you've beaten. I haven't calculated it myself but from what I'm reading on a Cowboys board that I lurk on, we're currently tied with TB and have a comfortable lead over Minn.

Looking at it some more. If Chicago gets into the wildcard chase, which can only happen if they lose at Green Bay tomorrow and then lose and Minnesota wins at Baltimore, and then Minny beats the Bears on the last day...we are done.
I can't find another scenario besides that one, or all three of WAS, CAR, and TB winning next week, to keep us out. If we beat the Rams, of course.

You're right. I just found the definition. Our win over Caro today should give us the edge there. But there are a LOT of variables that go into that, so it's tough to say definitively.

Washington is playing at Philly, Carolina at Atlanta, and TB is playing at home vs. the Saints.
I'm thinking we need to be big Atlanta fans next week, because I don't see TB or the Redskins losing.
