KG has been fishing for a month. With all the forwards ahead of him and in the playoffs, I think that is a reason.
Anyway
2006 allstar
2006 3-pt shooting champion
2006 NBA first team
and two more possible honors....here's hoping

Congrats Dirk!!
On a side-note, image 2 teams build around the All-NBA 1st and 2nd team... Who'd win a 7-game series? Nash-Dirk-Shaq-Bron-Kobe or Billups-Wade-Brand-Timmy-Big Ben?
I think the 1st team will beat the 2nd team... but it'll be close. The 2nd team is much better defensively.

First of all, congrats to Dirk. We all know he should've been MVP this year, but All-NBA 1st team for the second consecutive year will have to do.
But second let me just say that it is a CRIME that Gasol didn't at least make the third team. An absolute crime.

Congrats Dirk, on a well deserved 2nd consecutive All NBA First Team accomplishment!

I think we're seeing that Dirk should have been the NBA because of what we're seeing in this series. Dirk carried a team to 60 wins that was loaded with talent...but so much of the talent just wasn't there for long stretches of the season. Howard was hurt in the second half for a good stretch. Harris was injured for the majority of the second half. Stackhouse played like he was injured in the entire second half. Griffin also spent a long stretch on the shelf in the second half.
Congrats. But, know that this team coming together like it has this series probably doesn't do alot for Dirk's MVP chances in the future.

That's an interesting question. I guess you are talking about the 'Pistons effect', where the sum of the parts diminishes the value of any particular player? Yes, I'm sure there is something to that, as at the very least it makes the value of a guy a bit harder to see.
But I've been thinking that a title run this year would just about lock Dirk in for the MVP net year, assuming he kept up his normal rate of production next season and the Mavs kept winning. Obviously there would be many more games between now and a title, and I guess it's possible that the Mavs become less Dirk-centric the deeper they get in these playoffs. But when you look at the eight games they have played thus far, with everyone more or less healthy, Dirk has definitely been the rock.
Terry had been, quite frankly, disappointing up until Game Four. Howard had his ups and downs. Stack can't seem to ever put a truly flawless game together. Harris, of course, has been a big factor in the Spurs series, but he was absent for the Memphis sweep.
This team is still Dirk and a bunch of role players. Those role players are very good, and in fact I found myself during one particular stretch of play in this Spurs series (I do not remember which game), where Dirk was resting and the team was playing quite well in his absense, wondering if the talk of the Mavs being a lottery team without Dirk was overstated.
Assuming a not-miserable replacement for Dirk, I think it's fair to look at the rest of the Mavs roster and surmise that they would make the playoffs with ease and might even win a series. But without Dirk they would doubtless be gone by now.
I don't think that is lost on most observers. I do believe that if the Mavs at least make it to the Finals and give the Pistons a fight, Dirk will be the frontrunner for the MVP award next season.

Beating the Spurs will give Dirk more respect in the eyes of the media. It will take a team effort but the only reason Dirk didn't receive the MVP trophy this year is because of the "crap" that happened last year in the playoffs. Throw in the Euro-soft image and bam. No trophy.
If the Mavs win. Dirk will gain respect.

MVP is reserved for LeBron the next two years. No doubt in my mind. I will be shocked if dirk gets another chance at it.
But getting some bling-bling this year will be just fine.

Dude, people said the same thing about Jordan too. And Charles Barkley and Karl Malone both won MVP awards during Jordan's "height."

I think Dude is spot on. Perhaps after LeBron wins a couple, Dirk can maybe sneak one in.

I think murph may be right. The funny thing is Dirk has been without question the mavs best player in this series but Dee Brown mentioned Devin, Jet, Howard, and quis(????) as guys that have been playing better this series. I love devin and he has been awesome but dirk is still putting up 24 and 12 on around 48% shooting. THis honor is well deserved btw.

They may have said it, but even jordan wasn't anointed like lebron has been. Nowhere near it.

Here's the thing with Dirk in this series. Dirk does two things:
1. He makes Duncan near useless defensively. They stick him on whoever isn't going to score. Normally, he's a very good defender against most PF's, but he can't come close to matching up with Dirk.
2. He frees up everyone that wants to penetrate by forcing the Spurs to use Bowen on him while often drawing a double and sometimes a triple (remember the assist to Stack at the end of game 4?)
All the while, he's still the Mavs leading the Mavs by a large margin in both scoring and rebounding for the series while shooting the ball well from the field and FT line AND getting to the FT line at an amazing rate.
Some interesting stats.
Dirk is averaging 13 FTA's per game. Devin is next with 7.
Dirk is averaging 24 points. Stack is next with 19.75 points per game.
Dirk is averaging 11.75 rebounds per game. Howard is next with 7.5.
Offensively, Dirk and Devin are far and away the leaders in efficiency.
I don't know how anyone can make a comment that so many players on the Mavs are playing better than Dirk. Dirk's numbers aren't where some would like them. But remember, he's just around 2.5 points off his yearly average in Points. At the same time, he's scoring 24 points on only 13 attempts per game. And yes, he is averaging almost 3 rebounds per game this series than he did in the regular season.
So, with the defense geared to stop him, his offensive game hasn't suffered compared to his MVP type season in the regular season. He's numbers are right where they need to be. There's nothing wrong with him spreading the wealth with his teammates when they are able to take the ball to the rim almost at will.
