Default Dirk as Leader... is DWade Right?

To a certain extent, DWade is right. Leadership was a definite advantage for the Heat, although its not fair to dump it all on Dirk. Dallas had a 1st year coach who'd won once as a player in the Finals, against the Hall of Fame coach in Riley. Miami had Shaq and Gary Peyton as leaders. Dirk had Darrell Armstrong. The leadership burden on Dirk was huge... on Wade it was tiny.

Remember, last year was Dirk's 1st year as the undisputed leader of what before had been Michael Finley's team. Dirk went from the quiet follower on the big 3, to screaming at Terry and calling out Damp. That was just 1 year before. The playoffs ended with the embarrassment of almost losing to Houston, followed by being humiliated by Nash and Amare. Everybody was wondering if Avery was good enough, and if Dirk could lead at all.

What a difference a year makes. Dirk realized he needed to work on his leadership skills, so he spends the off season leading a bunch of German scrubs to the European finals. The Mavs dump Fin, and Dirk starts his 1st year as undisputed leader. Not a bad job. He sure as hell looked like a leader to San Antonio and PHX. Sadly, when Miami collapsed its defense on Dirk and held him to 39% shooting, everybody but Terry shot less. Of course most of them were only in the playoffs for the 2nd or third time...only Dirk, Stack and the invisible Van Horn had ever been past the 2nd round. Experience-wise, they were no match for Shaq, Zo, Peyton, and a team that was in the confercence finals the year before.

Now Dirk is leading in a different way, Like Finley once did for him, Dirk is he's making room in his game for JHo to shine.

So if DWade wants to fault Dirk's leadership, fine, as long as he doesn't claim too much of the credit. And why is he teeing off on Dirk, when he, with this criticism, is agreeing the Mavs lack of leadership gave MIA the championship? I suggest he's looking at how he's leading the defending champs to mediocrity because he's missing Mr Past His Prime. Meanwhile, look at his ballhog cohorts. TMac without Yao, Kobe without Odum, 'Melo without AI, AI without Melo and LeBron without anybody, are all leading their teams to wins, while the Heat stink it up every night. I think that's Wade's real problem. And it gives me one more reason to hate him.

Oh basketball gods, please smile on me and get the Mavs another shot at DWade. I want to see how he holds up to 7 nights of Buckner and George. I want to celebrate at the AAA. But under Wade's leadership, MIA will be lucky to make the playoffs. If they were in the West, he'd be getting help next year from the lottery.

And how has Dirk handled the DWade attack? By Leading. His team and the NBA. Quietly.

One more time for the people:

Mavs 41-9, Heat 24-26

Boy Wade sure looked like a stud leader while his team was getting their collective arses kicked last night. I mean look how he inspired them to score 52 points on 37.5% shooting. Wade also showed great leadership in leading the team with 7 turnovers.

The Heat ended up losing a screaker to the Cavs. Of course this was really the fault of his teammates Kevin Fehr, Ken Mauer, and Rodney Mott who really put in an exceptionally poor performance. It's really unfair to expect Wade to play well without Steve Javie level teammates available.

Also, it's not as if the Heat have to worry about fighting to make the playoffs. They hold a humongous 1/2 game lead on New Jersey for the 8th playoff spot in the ultracompetitive east. Dirk obviously doesn't compare to Wade in leadership since 8 teams have completed 50 games with better records than the Mavs 41-9 in the history of hte NBA and 10 others have tied it. So Dirk's Mavs tied with 10 other teams for 9th place while Wade's team is all alone in 8th place.

I still don't know why Wade says this now....

It's like coming up with a rebuttle a day after being dissed or told off; know one knows what the hell you are talking about and you look like a retard.

Now that you mention it, Wade's quotes do sort of remind me of a certain Seinfield episode.

Maybe Wade is attempting to become the George Constanza of the NBA.

What does he really know about being a leader? He got lucky and won a championship in one of his first years in the league. Wait til Shaq decideds he's ready to move to a different city and the Heat start to dwindle like the Lakers. Before you know it, people will realize that his leadership skills are equivilant to Kobe's: Nonexistant.

Well, there's a big difference between the way Dirk's stepping aside a bit compared to Finley. Dirk was better than Finley so Fin pretty much had to step aside or look like a fool. Dirk is better than Josh, but he's stepping aside even though he realizes that he's the better option because it could help the team down the road.

Dirk not a leader? Dallas got through the best two teams in the NBA last year, then played Miami. Strange for him to bring it up now, but the good thing is - Dirk won't care, and if he does, he'll just bring it on the court.

Wade made a childish statement, and he basically reiterated what Dirk had insinuated without even realizing what he was saying.

Dirk said that they handed over the championship...meaning that they didnt do things like they could have been done. Under that categorization falls the execution of late game offense by Dirk and co. In a round about way, they are both saying the same thing. The only difference is that Wade was completely disrespectful, childish, and reacting out of guilt, where Dirk was talking about what the team has to do to win a championship.

The difference in class is enormous. Wade obviously has none.

Watching the MIA-SA pregame show, they just talked about whether DWade belongs on the "Mount Rushmore" for the decade, along with Shaq, Tim and Kobe. Dirk's name never mentioned because he has no rings. They added that of those 4, Wade is playing best.

Yeah. That was lame. If it's all about rings, I want to see very announcer and sportswriter saying that Dirk is the best PF in history after he gets a few.

Penny Hardaway would have been on that list if Shaq hadn't left the Magic...

DWhistle is such a dumbsh!t he doesn't even realize that it takes two to have a back and forth. Since Dirk isn't stooping to his classless level of trash talking how could there be a back and forth no matter what the little fairy diva said. DWade has an over sized ego and a microscopic brain and set of testicles. Hope the little panzy blows an ACL soon and we can be put out of our misery of hearing from the moron so often.

Well actually there is a back and forth going on... between Wade and a vast array of players and coaches all around the league. The Pistons, Tmac, Ray Allen, Dirk, the list keeps growing and by the time the kid is retired he will be known as the greatest flopper of all time (hall of fame material, i'm sure).

Pretty interesting blogpost about this. The comments are also telling. And for "dipstick" I'll repeat what dirk said.

Quote:
Dirk Nowitzki:

"Yeah, they made some adjustments. I thought once they got back home, they were great, obviously Dwyane was great. After Game 2, whatever, he was unstoppable. He really, you know, really won them the Championship. You know, from Game 3 when we were up 10, he just took over since then. He never let up. He was great."
.

What's interesting about the blog is the author first get's up in arms about cubes response, thinks about it some more and sort of changes his tune a tad. Then a very interesting discussion ensues in the comments. What I really liked were the comments reminded the blogger of his own posts about the finals refereeing. His blog was good enough for a blogroll link anyway.

Thanks for clarifying. Question for you: Why do you find it necessary to call me a dipstick..ie a jerk or a fool. That is rude and not called for. Have a great evening.

I'll actually apologise. Thought if you had bothered to read the thread your question would have been answered already. Instead you came on and without doing that basically accused dirk of starting the whole schemeil and backing diva.

I was not accusing dirk. I actually had heard that Dirk said that. I am not saying that he did, that is just what I heard. I will admit that being a part of a corvette, g35,mustang, 1 football and 2 basketball forums...I don't always read the whole thread and that IS my bad. I am trying to be in good terms here on this board

The following seven categories of online conduct are unacceptable at Dallas-Mavs.com and constitute a violation of our Community Standards which may result in a warning, suspension or loss of membership. It's important to note that these guidelines are applicable everywhere on Dallas-Mavs.com including within our Chat and Private Messaging, and Reputation comment features:

Harassment -- Harassment occurs when a member insults, attacks, and denigrates another member at any time. Harassment also occurs when one member sends Reputation comments to another member after being placed on the receiving member's Ignore list. Even though we realize that sports discussions can get intense, we have zero tolerance for taking an argument about a sports topic to a personal level. For instance, the use of terms such as "idiot, moron, stupid" and other derogatory terms constitutes harassment. Harassment not only includes individuals but also can apply to insults against others teams, players and groups of Dallas-Mavs.com members. Repeated critical, condescending and/or sarcastic posts toward a forum member can also constitute harassment. The inclusion of board members usernames in ones signature constitutes harassment as well.

Disruption -- Posts which intend to disrupt the topic of conversation or steer the topic away from the focus of the forum and related news. Disruption can include harassment, multiple posting of the same post and posting completely off topic messages.

Multiple Personalities -- Dallas-Mavs.com members are required to use one and only one Username. Creating multiple user accounts is a violation of the Terms of Use and would result in a suspension and/or permanent banning of the users account.

Vulgarity and Sexual Explicitness -- As a community with a diverse variety of members and readers, we ask that our members to post without using vulgarity. Vulgarity not only includes vulgar language and pictures but also sexist, racist, anti-religious and homophobic language which may offend other members. In addition, the "masking" of vulgarity by inserting * or another keystroke in place of one or more letters in a vulgar term is acceptable in most cases. However, all uses of vulgarity are open to editing or deletion by moderators. We realize that there's a "grey area" of judgment with vulgarity but we ask that you'll respect others by avoiding vulgarity and our right to determine what constitutes it and take appropriate action.
