Spurstalk
Lately we've been having some minor difficulties with the boards, which led to some posters actively joining the activities over at Spurstalk. I just wanted to know who else in here posts over at Spurstalk.com I know I've seen u2, dirkastan, dirkgoesnuclear, etc to name a few. Anyone else?

I don't, I'd rather just talk Mavs basketball.

It's enemy territory, but there's a bunch of Mavs fans cluttering up the NBA section. I don't even really pay attention to the Spurs section.
But it's probably not your thing anyway, nashty. You're too nice. Which isn't a bad thing at all, because it'll keep you from wasting your time over meaningless confrontations.

Yeah Nashty is too nice. I dont remember seeing him getting mad at someone for trollling or dissing the Mavs. He does fight back, in style! Classy!

I think they banned me last year during their playoff beating. They even seemed to ban anyone from reading posts.
so I haven't bother to re-sign up, just read 'em. They are kinda funny but a little too much. Lot's of posters however, even a dee-troit-basket-ball section.

i've ventured infrequently into those forums, mostly to get their take on the Spurs play from time to time....
generally speaking, i find that discussions amongst spurs fans and other teams' fans go something like this...
Spurs or Suns???
Suns Fan -- I think the suns can run circles round the spurs this year, and the spurs don't rebound well enough to take advantage of the Suns real weakness.
Spurs Fan -- 3 rings baby, how many do the Suns have?
Mavericks or Spurs???
Mavericks Fan -- I think Dallas' depth and athleticism will out last the Spurs this year.
Spurs Fan -- Spurs 3, Dallas 0. Scoreboard, pwnd.....
Dirk or Nash????
Suns Fan -- nash really makes other players on the Suns so much better....
Spurs Fan -- Spurs 3, Suns 0, Mavs 0 -- you guys suck it. wait 'til playoffs.
Mavs Dancers or Spurs Dancers?
Mavs Fan -- the mavs' chick with the light brown hair in the third row of their group pic is outrageous.
Spurs Fan -- 3 rings baby. Count 'em 3. You suck, you don't know what you're talking about.
the atomic weight of aluminum
Avogadros Fan -- i think it's about 27 amu's...
Spurs Fan -- it's 3, as in 3 rings, 3 nba championships....all you other guys suck.
pi to 12 digits
Steinitz's fan -- 3.14159215358
Spurs Fan -- Spurs 3, Mavs 0, Suns 0 etc., et....
....
I guess what I'm saying is that the technology of those forums seems pretty nice, but the discussions get a little redundant..........

i've already got this going for me -- remember when a one-shouldered emmit beat the giants?
while i take a certain amount of pleasure in being a glorios SOB in living in the past, I retain enough clarity of thought to recognize the limited use of such a taunt as "nah nah nah, we're better than you".

thats true. they're so dumb.
for instance, being a huge Dallas Stars fanatic looking up the ass of the Ducks all this season, it would be so incredibly stupid for me to go to a Ducks message board and try to scoreboard them with our Stanley Cup that we won 8 years ago that they don't have....
funny spurs fans.

i don't know whether they're quantitatively dumber than fans from elsewhere, but I do think that rooting for a great team for many years may lead to a certain dullness of wit....which is to say that losing experiences often cause us to grow a bit wiser, while winning fills us with pride.
that is, spurs' fans see themselves arguing that the Spurs will win, then the spurs win, and the fans imagine that this must mean they've known what they're talking about. Likewise, a lot of Miami fans must be feeling like geniuses these days if they correctly predicted great things for the miami heat going into last season.
(and how smart would we be feeling but for that awful week in june?)
conversely, those who predicted greatness for teams that didn't win it all (ie, mavs fans), are now second guessing themselves, reviewing the data and wondering where they went astray...
(for instance, yours truly was absolutely convinced that attempting to turn it on mid-season was the stuff of fools...hmmm....i ain't so sure about that any more)
point being--rooting for teams that enjoy great success year in and year out may cause a person to overestimate their knowledge of the sport. Meanwhile, rooting for a team that falls short may cause a fan to think a wee bit harder.
I ain't saying this is always the case, but it probably holds as often as not, hence...
Spurs fans are so dumb.

for grins I perused a little of spursreport.com.....
...the first argument I came across went something (well, exactly) like this --
the Spurs are peaking at just the right time, as evidenced by their current 8 game winning streak. the mavs peaked too soon, as evidenced by their 15 game winning streak. not one person disagreed with the assessment.
to repeat the thesis stated in the prior post -- an extended period of rooting for a very successful team can make a person dumber.
