Artest arrested at home on domestic violence charges
Artest arrested at home on domestic violence charges
ESPN.com news services
Last month Ron Artest was cited for neglecting dogs on his property, and his troubles have now escalated. The Sacramento Kings star was arrested on Monday morning in his home on domestic violence charges, according to a multiple media reports.
Placer County Sheriff's officials announced the charges and scheduled a 7 p.m. ET news conference to discuss the incident.
"We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering information," Kings spokesman Troy Hanson told the Sacramento Bee.
According to the reports, police responded to a a 911 call at 9:23 a.m. PT, and deputies found the woman who made the call at Artest's Loomis, Calif., home. After interviewing the woman and the player separately, police arrested Artest.
He was charged at the Placer County Jail with domestic violence and using force or violence to prevent his victim from reporting a crime, the Bee reported, citing officials involved in the case.
In early February, it was revealed that Artest paid $1,942 in boarding and impound fees because some of his dogs had spent a total of 77 nights at the Placer County pound since July. Animal control officers had gone to Artest's five-acre estate seven times in that period in response to callers' complaints about dogs being loose or not being fed.
Artest completed anger management for a domestic violence charge in 2004, and the mother of his children was charged with the same crime for hitting Artest in 2002.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Did someone actually propose JHo for Artest when he was being shopped last year?

Kings excuse Artest
Ex-Pacer arrested for domestic violence at his Sacramento home
By Mark Montieth
mark.montieth@indystar.com
AUBURN, Calif. -- Ron Artest was excused indefinitely by the Sacramento Kings on Monday following his morning arrest for domestic violence.
The Kings will play Artest's former team, the Indiana Pacers, tonight at Arco Arena. Artest missed their game against the Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse on Feb. 25 for personal reasons reportedly related to marital difficulties.
Five officers of the Placer County sheriff's department responded to a 911 call placed at 9:23 a.m. Spokesman Andrew Scott, who was one of the arresting officers, said Artest apparently "shoved the victim to the floor several times" and then attempted to prevent her from calling the police.
Scott, speaking at an afternoon news conference, said Artest was "very cooperative" and "very calm" after police arrived and did not resist arrest. He posted $50,000 bail and was released from jail, but was ordered not to return to his home in Loomis, Calif.
Artest will be arraigned on March 22.
It was unclear whether the woman who made the call was his wife, Kimsha, or someone else.

I wonder if the Kings might be working on some money-saving measures.

I guess this means the end of Artest's playing career. Good for him. Rack up another perfect achievement for the Queens. I knew those guys will have a great year, just didnt know it was about to happen this season.

There were a lot of people that said that the Mavs were dumb to not take Artest in a trade that would have shipped Josh Howard out...
Barkely and many other talking heads (with no brains) said this. Many fans and posters said it.
I did not. I am very glad that we have JHo and not the Ho beater, Artest...
sorry for the pun. It is in bad taste. No woman deserves that abuse.

Neither did I. Was never ok with the idea of letting JHo leave.

Glad to hear you were opposed to Artest. Doubt those who wanted Artest rather than JHo will respond here. Easier to ignore the post.
