Memphis Grizzlies at Dallas Mavericks preview
7:30 p.m. today, FSNSW; ESPN-FM (103.3), KFLC-AM (1270 in Spanish)
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...p.37c2135.html
By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News
Who's hot? Brandon Bass
The backup forward has averaged 12 points and 5.5 rebounds in the last four games, putting a sore ankle behind him and resurfacing as a player Avery Johnson can rely on at crunch time. ... Jason Terry's slump is officially over. He's averaged 21.5 points in the last two games and made 16 of 29 shots. ... Dirk Nowitzki is coming off his first career triple-double, so Johnson was asked if he might consider making the 7-footer a point guard. "Would they call that Johnson-ball?" he asked. Nellie-ball, of course, is based on a forward handling point guard duties. ... Memphis' Mike Miller is coming off a 32-point night in a losing effort to Milwaukee, and he almost always gives the Mavericks fits.
Who's not? The Grizzlies
Since the Mavericks planted a 19-point loss on them last week in Memphis, they have a much different look. No more Pau Gasol. But they have Kwame Brown and Javaris Crittenton from the Lakers in the trade. One thing that hasn't changed is the losing. They have not won since the Mavericks saw them and are on a four-game losing streak. They also are lottery bound with a 13-35 record. ... Brown played 16 minutes Tuesday in his first appearance for the Grizzlies, and the team was a minus-14 against Milwaukee when he was on the floor. Maybe we know now why the Lakers unloaded the former No. 1 overall draft pick.
Injuries
Mavericks: Jerry Stackhouse returns after missing seven games with a right hamstring strain; Devin Harris (left ankle) is out.
Grizzlies: Mike Conley (rib contusion) is day-to-day.

Let's hope the FOs use this chance to get together and discuss a Miller trade. He would solve a lot of problems for us.

Yeah, don´t let him leave the AA Center again, till he signs a contract!

I wonder how well we're going to match up against the equal value of Pau Gasol?

The Mavs should slaughter those Grizz just for pulling that ridiculous trade.

From the DMN blog:
Quote:
Miller would love to be Mav
Guard/forward Mike Miller is reportedly being shopped as part of the Grizzlies' clearance sale. As is the case with most good players on the trade market, the Mavs have been mentioned as a possible destination for Miller.
Miller says the right things about just focusing on playing, giving the Grizzlies his all and trying not to get caught up in trade talk. But a huge smile breaks out on his face when asked what he'd think about coming to the Mavs.
"That'd be fun," Miller said. "They've got a great team. ... They've got a lot of talent already. I don't know if they need me."
Oh, I'm pretty sure the Mavs could find a spot for a 6-8 pure shooter averaging 17 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Miller, who is shooting 51 percent from the floor and 43 percent from 3-point range, would be a fantastic fit on the wing opposite Josh Howard.
Just one problem: The Mavs probably can't put together an attractive enough offer to make it happen.
Miller is making $8.25 million this season ($9 million next season and $9.75 million in 2009-10). Before you get all excited about that making him a salary match with Jason Terry, remember that there's a better chance of Elvis coming back to life than Memphis taking on Jet's deal that doesn't expire until after he makes $11.4 million in 2011-12.
There's always the option of giving Keith Van Horn an expiring contract and shipping him off. Maybe that can happen if the Grizzlies' lone goal is to cut as much salary as possible.
Unfortunately, I don't see any other way the Mavs could get Miller, not with several other contenders submitting bids for him. Of course, the Grizzlies did make a lot of folks scratch their heads with the Pau Gasol-to-LA deal, so maybe there is hope for Miller to be a Mav.

We need to get him here. If he'd really "love to be a Mav," Donnie and crew need to figure out a way to make this happen.

So here we go again with Bass and Dirk as a frontline. On consecutive games we will be torched by Andrew Bogut and ... Darko Milicic. I am starting to despise Avery. How many games have to pass by before he understands that with that lineup we revert back to the Nellie's Mavs.
