Ultamatum, win or lose
If Cuban puts an ultamatum on Johnson to win last night, lose and you're fired, does Kidd see the last 30 seconds?

Based on the situation with the team, I bet he still sits him. For the exact same reason he explained last night.

Avery "thought" it was the best thing for the team, so I see no reason why he would do any different if his job was on the line. That would make even less sense than doing it in the first place.

Why would he need an ultimatum? Are you suggesting he didn't really want to win the game.

Geez, is he really that stupid then? I was reading this piece comparing the Colts removing Peyton Manning in favor of a 6th receiver. He had a few chances to put him back in the game too. And if Kidd's man drops to double Dirk, as he said he wants to free up from a possible double, Kidd can attack the hole, draw another defender and find his man for close up shot.

Seriously... i'm sure Avery WANTS to win so he probably did what he thought was right, it just wasn't very smart on his part.

There's no doubt that Avery honestly thought that this move gave them the best shot to win.
He doesn't believe in Kidd, he doesn't believe in Dirk.
He thinks they are only good enough to win if he comes up with some magic. Like sitting Damp the first game of a playoff series.
Which is why he needs to go. Dirk is sick of his sh*t. You can tell by Holger's interviews.
The Mavs probably thought just changing the PG into a hall-of-famer will force Avery to abandon his dictatorship. Bringing in a basketball genius who is miles above what Avery ever was.
But obviously that won't stop Avery. He will come up with other ways to control everything. His hubris has grown too strong after he lucked into the best job a coach could ever get.
He must go and make room for carrot top to become player/coach. This way there would still be a chance for salvage this season.
