Dang.....
Lets see from what I read on this board...
1) Avery Johnson
2) Jerry Stackhouse
3) Josh Howard
4) Mark Cuban
5) Officiating/League
6) Jason Kidd
7) Dirk Nowitzki
I think pretty well in this order.... from what I have read.

I am so proud to be the first person to vote Avery on this one. At this very moment, this poll indicates that 100% of voters blame Avery!

BTW, people voting for Donnie (the bench), do realize that many local guys (including Skin who is really, really plugged into the Mavs) have stated it as fact that the majority of veterans on the bench were aquired because Avery demanded they be.
He wanted nothing to do with youth.

I voted for that option, but I meant "the bench" (and a hole or two in he starting lineup...) more than "Donnie." There wasn't a general "player acquisition" option. I would split the blame between Donnie, Avery, and Cuban for not being willing to spend the MLE. I think a pair of MLE signings could have made a huge difference on this squad.

When you're picking scapegoats, it's best to broadly generalize and irrationally pin the blame on the first person who could conceivably be responsible...

i think underdog is somewhat alone in understanding the role of the scapegoat, or escape goat as the case may be....
but yeah, i'd say avery is plainly the top pick for an escape goat.

Define escape goat/scapegoat however you want - the winner is still Avery!

Yep - Bass is another worn out veteran that collected social security on the bench.

Yeah, I find it funny how many people are actually taking this thing seriously.

Alright everybody turn your hearing aids up i have an announcement.
longhorn is the A-hole that voted for dirk as being 'soft', i'd suggest everybody give him negative reputation. Also, his last post was in like 2006. Here is a link to his last post.
Do it.

I don't think you can say anything about the bench. Avery never used them so they don't qualify...

really a tough call for me between howard, avery, and kidd. (kidd being the least of the evils)
my first reaction to the trade was i didnt like it, but it became easy to get behind it because of the fact that we got bounced in the first round last year by baron davis.
but the fact is, we were better before the trade, or more accurately, before devin got hurt.
as far as avery, i think he was too caught up in "defense wins championships" i think offense was the new stepchild once avery took the helm which in many cases resulted in the mavs looking like the 3 stooges at the end of close games, except it was an episode with moe, larry, curly, joe and schemp. (actually dirk, larry, curly, joe, and kidd)
to his credit, i think avery should be credited for us getting to the finals in the first place. i think there was enough residual nelson left in this team to still have some flow on offense, and the splash of D put us in the finals.
also in avery's favor, i will never believe we choked in the finals. it was awarded to the heat. period.
that leaves j-hole. i dont blame the pot smoking, although it was totally stupid to admit it when he did.
his piss poor play, and even more importantly, not giving a shit about it, was too much to overcome for the players that care. bad play, selfish, and stupid too??????????
i voted j-hole

If I had been told before the trade that Josh Howard would regress into a D-leaguer I wouldn't have done it.
I used to support the trade, but now I have doubts. Those draft picks are no longer ammo to build on next season, and there were probably better trades out there. Something for Mike Miller, perhaps? Cassell/Maggette from the Clippers? I dunno, it seems like the trade was made for "huge name" rather than quality basketball.
I still think we can make it work, though.

Josh - if you give all you have and lose a game there's nothing wrong with it - but this guy played wiithout commitment in the last playoff series.
