Bulb Socket to Edison plug adapter
Does anyone know if its possible to wire a 3 prong Edison type plug into a light bulb socket? I'm not at all an electrician, but was wondering if all the voltages and whatnots matched up. Does anyone know if this is possible, or if an adapter like this already exists?

No no, like I learned from Its Always Sunny, you just have to be jumping in the air while you touch anything. Easy Peesy.

I have a thingy that screws into light bulb sockets and has a regular 3-prong outlet on its end. I presume you can get 'em at any hardware store.

I guess I don't really understand why you would want to do this?

I'm confused as to which way you're wanting to go. Are you wanting to screw something into a light bulb socket and have it become an outlet?
If so, then yes, I actually have one in my bathroom as we speak.
If the other way....then it's called a lamp.

I live in a duplex with a shared front porch, and we've all been wanting for a while to get a stereo system set up out there. I've cobbled together an old car amp, a power supply, and some old car speakers, but we just needed a way to get power to it all. There aren't any plugs on the outside of our house, and we really didn't want to have to pull out an extension cord every time. Also, since its a rental, we didn't think the owner would be too keen on us drilling holes in walls and attics to run power from.
What we do have, however, is a porch light. We figured if we can plug into that, and then also just plug some sort of lamp in, then we still have a light and we also have power for our system.
Tada!

Although I'd be careful on how much you try to draw out of that thing.

Yeah, remember not to put any electrical equipment near your inflatable kiddie pool in the front yard

Uggghhh... This thread brings back bad memories of 6 or 7 different hardware stores I worked in as a much younger man. Electrical was the one damned section I didn't want to have to mess with, because I hated having to try to answer questions from customers about things like this, and that was the one damned section I always would get stuck in, over and over again.
If folks wanted to ask me about killing bugs and varmints, or the best way to grow tomatoes, or about how to make a PVC pipe solution work, or about how to properly chlorinate your pool, I'd alwasy be able to dredge up a pretty good BS-ey answers, but any time bastards expected me to answer their challenging electrical questions and expect me as a 19 year old to be their cut rate electrician/hardware-store-floor-monkey, it was damned well annoying and bothersome, and darned worrying too, because I sure didn't want any of my crappy advice leading to customer electrocution...
That said, just like JThig said, you should be able to buy a nice screw in insert with a three prong adapter on it to run off of your socket for something like $1.99 at just about any hardware store that's convenient to you. I don't know what kind of wattage you'd be looking at running off of that with your music setup, but I'd imagine that drawing on it too greatly wouldn't be a good idea...
