Dirk is the reason why I started to watch basketball in the first place. He NEVER gives up on his team. He does everything he can to make them better. He doesn't care about the celebrity of being a basketball player, he truely loves the game, and you can see it everytime he steps out on the court. That's why I love him.

I wish Dirk could win a ring as well, somehow, someway.
Of course we all know that he deserves one, not because he's agood player whose neve rbeen in the right situation, but because god damn it, the 2006 Finals were fluky BS and tarnished by one sided officiating. The Stern mafia decided that a somewhat Jordanesque shooting guard, with Riley, and O'neal, was more marketable than our beloved unconventional German PF and his armada of borderline stars.
But alas, go Dirk.

Dirk Nowitzki is everything that is right about a professional athlete. He doesn't carry an ego with him. He works his ass off, he leads by example. Dirk wants what is best for the team and he is willing to branch out and learn new things to make his team better. He doesn't want the spotlight, he just wants to win...wants it more than anything, and that drives him.
The thing that makes me smile more than anything is that I see Dirk and I see what jersey he wears, it makes me so proud. He is ours, and we're blessed to have him.

Congrats Dirk! I hope you celebrate it today by swinging the hammer on Utah
You care so much about your team and I have to admit that you are the reason why I started to watch NBA.

same here.
I posted the following already in the general nba-thread, but I think it fits here even better. If somemody thinks otherwise, feel free to move/delete this post.

Glad you mentioned it. I checked the website, found the recaps and some other nice, little pieces:
http://www.zdf.de/ZDFmediathek/conte...8?inPopup=true
First is an interview with nowitzki in a german tv-show from 1998 (about 4 minutes - Can't translate it all, but I try to give those, who are interested and not capable of understanding it, a little idea what they're talking about).
He just got drafted and became a dallas maverick and explains how he made it to the nba, why he needed to get his hair cut before the interview(uneven growing) and what it's like to play in the nba, meaning game-atmosphere. He is also asked if he needs to improve physically. And of course he's totally adorable all over the interview.
[The ugly, shiny thing in front of him is some sort of award, which the tv-(sports-)show seemingly gave to him right before the video starts. The ugly, non-shiny thing next to him is Michael Steinbrecher, still doing that show today]
Special appearance: Detlef Schrempf
The second one is a short compilation reviewing nowitzkis ten years of playing in the nba:
http://www.zdf.de/ZDFmediathek/conte...4?inPopup=true
Hopefully everybody gets along with the crappy embedded-player-system on that homepage, full-view works best for me.
The last and for all non-german mav-fans least interesting item is a more recent interview(-article) with Dirk, which brought news to me, saying zdf, our second pbc-channel, will air the allstar-game. I like it!
http://sport.zdf.de/ZDFsport/inhalt/...512718,00.html
Finally I found an article quoting Marc Cuban on his unwillingness to trade nowitzki with something, I did not read before elsewhere (I had to back-translate it, so actually it's not a real quote anymore):
He may opt out in 2010, but hopefully he won't. In case of need I pour him something in the tea or hold him in the headlock until he confirms to stay with us
Anyway, it's fine to see german tv paying at least some attention to Dirk and the nba, again. "Inside NBA"did not last too long on dsf.

Couldn't agree with you more! Dirk is a CLASS ACT. On and off the court. And imop one of the greatest power forwards to EVER play the game. He has revolutionized the pf position. It's a privilege to watch that man play basketball. I'm so proud he's on our team. A great player who really and truly believes in the concept of TEAM basketball vs ME basketball. There is not one player I would take in the league over Dirk. Not one.

Congratulations, Dirk. The Three J's era turned me into a ferocious Mav's fan, but the early years of the Dirk Era somehow further transformed me into an obsessive, raving Mav's fan, and although multiple girls that I have dated throughout the years might disagree, that's not really a bad thing. In that spirit, I posit the following prayer:
Providence, please keep our Big German here in Dallas until he retires, and please allow him to win a ring here to wear next to the ghost ring that he and our Mav's were cheated out of in '05-06. You and I both know he deserves it, both because of the essential class, toughness, and incredible work ethic that said Big German has displayed over the last decade, and also because of all of the good that the fella has done for both the city of Dallas and for the growth of the great game of basketball around this world of ours... Keep him in Dallas and give let him finally climb the mountain, please...

Well...last night he certainly did play like the way he did when he first entered the league?

This is from the Avery year but worth a read.
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Dirk-Nowitzki-3780/
Quote:
NBA Scouting Reports, Southwestern Division (Part One)
May 15, 2008
Overview: The most successful International player in NBA history. Has ridiculous size for his skill set, and solid athleticism to match. The native German is as versatile a player as there is in the game today. Has played in six All-Star games. Won the NBA MVP in 2007. Has improved in little ways throughout the latter part of his career. Doesn’t always play with the same intensity, and lacks of a bit of a killer instinct, but his focus has improved during each of his seasons in the League.
Offense: Gets about a quarter of his offensive possessions as a spot up shooter, with another fifth coming from post ups. Another quarter comes from pick and rolls and isolations. Gets most of his shots as a jump shooter. Has a great stroke that is impossible for most players to block due to his size and high release point. Can knock down the three at a good clip (although his percentages are down this season) and hit fade-aways from almost any distance. Great ball handler for his size. Can bring the ball up the floor from time to time. Capable of driving off the dribble with either hand. Can take the ball all the way to the rim or dominate the midrange game. Good in the post as well. Uses a nice array of fakes to get open look underneath. Likes to turn over his right shoulder and then fade away. Can finish consistently with both hands at the rim. Draws contact well. Gets to the line at a phenomenal clip, and shoots a great percentage once there. A poor offensive rebounder for his size. Tremendous passer for his height. Can really do it all offensively. Real team player. Hard to defend as an individual. It usual takes a team effort to shut him down.
