20-8: TT does his best Dirk.
Good win.
TT shot the ball well, good move by Rick to start him. Kinda played the role of Dirk.
Terry finally started taking the ball to the hoop. It payed off as he had some crucial points in the 4th.
Kidd was Kidd. Just amazing
Marions D is becoming one of the best things about this team. Every night he shows up and guards the best player on the opposing team. Such a luxury for a team to have, especially if that guy can score on the other end as well.
What happened to Josh?

We witnessed history tonight. We saw the shortest break between quarters in NBA history (I think).

Great to see the Mavs win!
This is one of those time when I'd truly appreciate a nice recap. I was busy the whole night and I was only able to watch the final few minutes of the game.
Anyhow, it's great to see that this team can beat a quality/contending team without Dirk.
Go Mavericks!!!

Holy cow. I mean...holy cow.
So let's start this off with Tim Thomas. I was very, very against the Tim Thomas signing, as many of you know. My reason is simple: I think he's a loser. The guy should be finishing off a great, great career. He had the talent to be one of the best players of the past decade, and that is not an exaggeration. And the reason he didn't realize that potential is quite simply that he just didn't care enough. And I can't stand to have that attitude around my team.
However, the case for signing a player like that was on full display tonight. Not many teams can bring a player of Thomas' talent level off the bench to replace their all-world player. And it makes it even better that Thomas plays a very similar game to Dirk, so you don't have to make that many adjustments to how the offense runs. He was awfully good tonight and the Mavs clearly don't win without him.
After Thomas, I thought it was just an all around team effort. No one went off for a career night. Everyone just played their role and picked up a small part of the load. The only player that hit the floor tonight that probably wasn't quite up to his usual level was JJ, and he wasn't bad by any stretch.
Marion responded to getting crunch time minutes tonight by hitting several huge shots. I can't wait for more of his chippies to start going in.
I've been killing Drew Gooden recently so I should single him out tonight and mention that he played a solid game. If he'd give us that performance every night I'd shut up.
Loved seeing Jet break out tonight, but it's mitigated somewhat when he lets Delonte West get every single shot he wants. Still, you have to hope Jet is about to break out of his slump a little bit after tonight.
Here's a HSO for you: Erick Dampier, as of December 20th, 2009, is a better player than Shaquille O'Neil. I don't even think it's a question, really. Dampier is a vastly superior defender at this point in their careers, and Shaq kills that team offensively. Damp's been neutralizing Shaq head-to-head for several years now (by and large, anyway), but at this point, no matter what the match up, I'd rather have Damp.
What a freaking fantastic win tonight. What a strong, gutty performance from the entire team tonight. Very, very proud of our team tonight.

Mike Brown COTY....wait what?
Im getting excited about Marion. He is becoming the Kidd version on the wing, doing from everything a little bit.

He got tired. He's been playing largely in short bursts since coming back, and he got winded tonight.
People need to remember that Josh spent the entire summer and training camp rehabbing instead of working out and staying in shape. He's still not even close to his normal game shape.

Also, I'd like to see TT play more when Dirk is back. No reason he shouldn't get 10-15 min. a game at the 3 and 4.

Six guys in double figures. That's how you win without Dirk.
And that picture above.

BTW, Lebron was 9-23 tonight. Once again, an elite scoring wing is forced into a tough shooting night. Shawn Marion has changed the defensive makeup of this team.

What makes me really excited about TT is how he missed his first few shots again Houston, and then comes out and nails that HUGE 3 to send it to overtime. He seems less insecure in a slump than Terry. Terry always looks a little tentative when he knows he's off.

Terry still has to work on his shot selection. I think thats the main reason why his % dropped the last years, he is forcing it way too often.
When he airballed that turnaround jumper with hand in his face i just wanted to smack him on the head.

Love it, good win. Nice to know almost everyone who played scored in double digits (6 out of 8 players). Not too shabby, now lets continue playing well with or w/o Dirk.

Agian Jet has been struggling some, but he was big tonite. And while its easy to point things out, almost every teams looks at Jet as our #2 guy/ scorer. So a lot of teams focus on Jet and this year even more because of the good year he had last year. But I am sure Jet, he always comes thru.

we played an 8 man rotation, missing our best player, and no one had to play more than 30 minutes?

How many times has Damp shut Shaq down now?....I mean c'mon now, anyway I like the Mavs fight put up in this game without Dirk and they didn't lay down to the Cavs and let them win....great job by our Mavs.

I was very pleased every time Shaq was out there instead of Verejao or Ilgauskas. Those guys had offense. Shaq was weak on the boards, and would throw up power hooks that just bounced off the backboard. I'd have him taking those ill-advised shots any day over LeBron getting and-ones for driving into one of our defenders on his way to a layup.

He really has. I thought he would be a complementary offensive player and he is... But his defense has actually seemed to have transformed this team....it's actually stunning.
Wonder if Richard Jefferson has done as much as shawn has.

Love this quote from Mike Brown:
"There was a couple of times I know LeBron drove the ball and he got hit and there was no call," Cleveland coach Mike Brown said. "I've got to do a better job of understanding the rule, because I don't know what's a foul and what's not a foul. You get told different things at different times and I've got to figure that out, he's got to figure that out and we as a team have to figure that out because it's disrupting the flow of how we're trying to play offensively, and we let it get to us tonight."
Probably no player in the NBA gets away with more BS calls than LeBron... So Mike Brown doesn't know what to do when LeBron doesn't get a call every single time he drives to the basket. It really disrupts the offensive flow he's trying to create by giving the ball to LeBron and letting him run the offense.
