Postgame: Mavs at Nuggets - Win (and Barea)
Yeah, was a hard one, but a win is a win. Dirk needs to make atleast 1 of the 3 chances he had.
And Barea, well yeah... TRADE HIM!!

JJ and RCar single handily kept the Nuggets in the game. He's awful.
Dirk with 31 shots tonight. Butler didn't do much till the last 3 mins of the game. Denver has had some nice wins early on the year so its nice to get this one.

Denver comes in on Saturday on the second night of a B2B and we're just resting up til then. Dallas needs to put the foot on the throat and take them out.

I only caught the last 6 minutes or so.
If we had a legit backup PG instead of Barea, is this game even close?

38 minutes for Kidd, 39 for Dirk. Early in the season and two days off so it´s ok i would say...
With a solid Backup-PG it´s not needed.

I don't what pics JJB has on Carlisle, but I'm guessing it involves
tequila
midget stripper
donkey
mexico
There is just no excuse to play Jones 3 minutes and play Barea nearly 20 minutes.

Dirk was 35/12/3 with only 2 turnovers.
Ridiculous.

I was a little surprised that he didn't come back in the 2nd half, but it was the first road game against a tough opponent. Who knows what really goes on in Carlisle's mind...
I've mentioned it various places but I'm really intrigued to see what happens with Roddy gets back:
-If Jet is still shooting like he is, do they actually move him to the bench?
-Can DoJo do enough in the next 4-5 weeks to impress the staff more that he can handle some point guard minutes
-Despite his rough summer, do they even flirt with the idea of giving Roddy some minutes at point guard?

This.
GTFO with this weaksauce about starting a post victory thread mentioning Dirk needs to hit one of 3 shots when he almost single handedly won this game for us.

I love the shot distribution.. maybe 31 is a little much, but damn, keep giving the rock to Dirk. Only good things can happen.

Damn, overslept with a huge cold and just caught the last 36 secs.
And that shot clock violation was a damn close call from the one review they showed. And i really thought it would end up in A. Wright style...

I agree, and 14 is closer to what I'd like to see from CB. 12-16 a night. Finally shot 50% too. And hit 2 threes.

JJ Barea drew those charges. JJ Barea wastes possesions. JJ Barea isolotions. JJ Barea And-1. I can't like him, but I can't hate him.

I think that's what Carlisle thinks of when he mentioned something along the lines that JJ is a very valuable asset to have a few weeks ago.
To me, the cons outweigh the pros.

I agree. He was valuable "a few weeks ago." But those weeks have passed.

JJB is only valuable because we have no other back-up pg.
But, hey, at least we won.
GO MAVS!

I can. Easily.
-4
0 assists
3 turnovers
massive defensive liability.
Yeah, I hate that.

They played with S. Williams, Harrington and Anthony as their three biggest players, why we didnt destroy them in terms of rebounding?!

I've been playing around with this in my head for a while now. My hope is that Dojo can step up so we can reliably put him on the court for all the minutes Kidd spends on the bench. Then you have Roddy and Terry split the rest of the minutes for the other guard position equally.
Reasons why I like this:
1. With Dojo and Kidd on the court, you should always have a guard that can reliably defend opposing shooting guards.
2 Kidd and Dojo's lack of scoring ability should be offset by the explosiveness of Terry and Roddy.
3. Kidd's obviously a great passer, but Dojo is also a pretty good passer at the two so it can help offset the fact that Roddy may not quite be ready to run the team.
4. Barea gets phased out.
Now the key to my master plan is that Dojo needs to show a little bit more scoring-wise. I don't think he has to be amazing, but it needs to be more than the 3 points he's scored in his 31 minutes so far. But I like the rest of his game, and I think it matches well with Terry and Roddy. So I'm hoping he can prove that he's not a complete scoring liability.

I liked the way Dirk scored, putting on a shooting clinic basically, just a three-pointer was missing, even made a hook shot and tried a monster dunk. Just awesome stuff!

I am tired of the Barea bashing that goes around here. Every year there has to be one guy Mavs fan need to hate, is that it?
He makes some dumb plays, OK, but he also has his share of good moments. So all coach has to do is keeping his minutes down and yank im when he is useless. No need to go on and on and on about how bad he is.
Overall, the Mavs this year look like a team that plays well together and has the right focus and set of mind.

Still have the 3rd-least points against (90.3), right behind Miami (84.0) and Orlando (88.3).

I can't see JJ being totally phased out, if he is then that's telling us something wonderful is happening out of DoJo, Roddy and Jet.
I think if Jones can start finishing at the basket, that'll help with his confidence. He's getting there, he's just not figuring out how to adjust his finish. It's like he's doing the opposite, planning for a big when they're not there or compensating for a physical bump but it's not there either.
I honestly don't have a problem with Jet getting the PG minutes, we know he has his faults but he's show some slight improvements defensively so far. Jones and/or Marion will be able to work with him as well.

Sorry, but no...
For every nice offensive play you can find at least 3 bonehead plays, turnover, ignoring open Dirk etc. For every successful charge you find at least 10 plays where he gets completly toasted.
