Postgame blargh Mavs vs Craptors
I have no idea how a whole team can go from a great awesome hustle win to..."this" within a day.
Struggling to score without Dirk - fine
Defense? Not existent. Dunk - layup - dunk...
Our great center rotation sucked
Our best bigmen was Cardinal
They not even tried to fight, they just went for the soft jumper
I dont get it. Sure it was a trap game but exactly such losses really hurt and hunt you if you miss the #1 or HCA for one game...

Mavs played like garbagey garbage.
Still, it happens. Thursday will be tough if Dirk doesn't play, but would like to see a strong effort at least.

This just shows a lack of offensive talent outside of Dirk.

Well, not a huge surprise. Against Oklahoma City, they were riding a wave of emotion. Against Toronto there was no emotion.
That is why I said it was important to jump on the Raptors early. Because the Mavs have trouble scoring a lot of times even with Dirk. And without his spacing (he gets everyone on the court easier shots)... the Mavs may find themselves struggling. It happened. Wish I wasn't right this time, though.
And Rabbitproof starts the next GDT. That is if he can beat Mavs777 to the punch.

Who would have thought two months ago that this would even be a concern this early in the season? On the one hand, it tells us what a great season we've had so far. On the other hand, these home losses against Memphis, Milwaukee and Toronto could be even more unfortunate in the long run.
Thursday against the Spurs will be a completely different story, even without Dirk. I'd still don't like our chances without the big German.

The Vegas odds had us picked to win by 10, so obviously mvp41 wasn't the only one who thought this would be a cakewalk...

Vegas doesn't come onto our boards gloating about it though.
mvp41 did and always does this. And it's a big no no.

It appeared that the mavs just played like idiots. 18 or so turnovers, fumble-fingers, jacking up shots early in the clock...A complete reliance on jet to win the game which is insane. Brian CARDINAL was the best player on the floor tonight.
Jkiddo looked about 100, they never seemed to even think about getting the ball to chandler and no one wanted to shoot the damn thing.
Yuck...

Bah...the mavs had an off game and it was the toronto woeful raptors coming in. It's very disturbing to see how important the dirkster is to this team and why their defense sucked so badly as well.

Yea the vibe can change pretty dang quick. This is what carlisle, cuban is talking about, this team not playing themselves but playing the other team. If you have a team that is focused on getting better and actually winning the whole dang thing you don't see junk like they rolled out there tonight.
There wasn't a single player out there except cardinal who looked like they really gave a crap.
This wasn't a tired team playing 4 games in six nights, this was a team playing a back-to-back with five days off before that. I'm not sure I've ever seen a team more confused about who was going to take shots.

Well I totally agree that it's all about improving and playing "against yourself," but I'm not at all sure that you don't see this kind of stuff with every team from time to time. The Mavs may be a bit less consistent than, say Boston and SA, but the gap isn't that big. They throw up some stinkers too.

espndallas has it up now, but Butler hurt the ring and pinkie fingers on his shooting hand during Monday's win over the Thunder.
He said he will be fine though

Yea I saw in the star spangled bannner that he had the last two fingers of his shooting hand taped up.

I could kinda see the occasional stinker if they weren't playing short-handed. This is the time you want to see what they are really made of..unfortunately we saw it and it wasn't so good.

Yeah, I would have liked to see them rally around Dirk being out.

So do we think we lose this game if the dirkster was out there, I don't think he would have allowed it.

This also shows really how little offense the team actually has. Dirk, Caron, Jet...that's about it. We're going to want roddy to come back and do something.

Mavericks Offense Sputters Without Nowitzki, Lose to Raptors 84-76
The Dallas Mavericks had their first full game of the season without Dirk Nowitzki and the offense looked lost. The spacing wasn't there and the team didn't really play as a team. "Without the big fella stretching the floor, things are a little different out there," said Tyson Chandler. The Toronto Raptors, short-handed on their own as they missed several key players, were able to take advantage of the adjusting Mavericks and did enough to take the 84-76 victory over the Mavericks.
"We’ve got to have help from a lot of different places," Carlisle said in his pregame address to the media. "And balance is one of our calling cards as a team. So, we’re gonna need it again tonight." The balance department was lacking as a whole as only three Mavericks scored in double figures, led by Jason Terry with 18 points.
To say the Mavericks had a rough start would be an understatement. In the first quarter, the Mavericks had more turnovers (7) than field goal makes (4). Dallas shot 20% from the field and matched a season-low for points in a quarter with 13. They had 13 points in the first quarter in the game against the Chicago Bulls on 11/19. The seven turnovers matched a season-worst for the first quarter. "We had a lot of turnovers in the first quarter," said Coach Rick Carlisle. "I thought we were in too much of a 'try and make things happen' mode and not enough trusting the team and the system and really working together."

We're in boat loads of trouble when Dirk retires, just saying. Tonight was flat out pathetic, and it was a very winnable game, the Mavs just played like they didn't want it

It is what it is. There IS a reason Dirk leads the NBA with a +28.8 on/off court plus-minus. It's about time people stop shrugging that off like it means nothing. That is an absurd number this deep into the season. I hope this game showed some people how that even when Dirk is "struggling", his mere presence gets other guys easy looks. Notice how no one had easy threes tonight. When Dirk is out there, it's not just the double teams, but even on a simple pick n roll, both defenders stick to Dirk like glue, which allows Kidd/JJB/Terry to either get a wide open jumper, or get in the lane and pass for a wide open jumper. First time in awhile DeShawn hasn't hit a three.
Cardinal looked good. At least there's that.

I'll echo some of the thoughts on here...the Mavs have clearly built up some equity along the way this year.
OKC was a gutsy win but they really didn't have to make THAT many changes in that game but they at least had Dirk for part of the game, tonight was a totally different situation. I would think most teams are going to suffer setbacks without their star guy...the thing about Dallas is they don't have a go-to 2nd guy to work off of. They've got a stable of guys that can take over in spurts but that won't work when Dirk is out for an entire game.
The perimeter D was pretty piss poor tonight....allowed too many guys into the lane and sucked the defense in at that point.

Eh, I think there were plenty of open looks especially from 3, they just didn't can em.
No one could hit shots when it really came down to win it. We got slashed up by their guards and ours couldn't beat theirs off the dribble. Surprisingly Kidd was the only one who was relentless in trying but most times it looked like a lack of movement from everyone else and bad spacing all around.
That really was the laziest or lack of determination I have seen from Chandler all season, maybe he's not feeling well? It just seemed like it was a night where if JET didn't do it alone and carry them with some ridiculous shots it wasn't gonna get done.

1) Dirk was great on the broadcast tonight.
2) Skin "You never know what happens when the ball squirts"...and Followill laughs.
