"NBA lockout could force Kidd to retire"
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_yl...irement_031811
Some of his quotes:
Quote:
“This could be it because it would be hard to come back after a lockout,” Kidd told Yahoo! Sports. “I would probably move on and join the next chapter of what I would be doing in life. But I hope that isn’t the case where it just ended without having one more season.”
|
Quote:
“I wouldn’t mind seeing what his business was all about with the hotel business and understanding the success that he’s had here in the States and also in Macau,” Kidd said. “Also … hopefully I can go upstairs [to an NBA team’s front office] and put the pieces together with a basketball franchise. That would be fun. Front office or maybe coaching, play a little golf and look at it from a different side.”

Kidd deserves to win a title, but lately he plays like he doesn't care anymore.

Let me guess... he actually retired over the all-star break? and what we're seeing now is an apparition... a ghost of used to be Kidd

With a full camp, I doubt it. Roddy would take the reigns by default, by with a full camp, he should be fine. Butler, Brewer/Terry/Dirk, Tyson up front, Marion off the bench. It'll be fine.

Nash, Jet, Harris, Kidd...we've had a lot of point guards/pretend point guards next to Dirk. I don't think it'd be that much trouble to add to that list.

Kidd is pretty much done anyways. We probably would need an offseason to get Beaubois tuned differently for point guard but I think we'll be alright.

How many years did it take Devin Harris to become an NBA-caliber point guard?
And Devin Harris was a lot further along when he came into this league than Roddy Beaubois (who has never played PG in his life). I'd give it 3 more seasons (if ever) before he's ready to lead a team that has championship aspirations.

I don't have anything to back it up, but I would think the Mavs will make a big push for Nash in the summer.

YEah, Roddy most likely won't be able to run that level team before Dirk is done and gone.

With things going down hill in PHX, would think they'd want to start fresh. Lopez is not getting any better, VC has seen better days, Hill has proven his worth or 82 games, but has nothing to show for it, Warrick is your 3rd forward, not a starting 4 in this league. Childress seems to play like he's on Greek time. Would be a nice add to the Mavs.

Did you guys watch the PHX-LAL game last night? That one play (Iforget which overtime) where Nash was trapped on the sideline and made a behind the back pass while falling out of bounds, still maintaining his pivot foot so as to not travel... unreal.

I would assume they'd hang on to Kidd and combine him with Nash, splitting their minutes in half.

I'm curious what kind of an offer you're envisioning Dallas making.

Well, based on PHX...I still think they'd want to unload Childress in some form or fashion. I think the Mavs would love to have Hill with Nash but I don't see how that would work out. The CBA might be a factor but I would think the Mavs could use S&T options with Butler and/or Stevenson to help facilitate a deal. Prior to the Brewer signing, I think they would've been hesitant to move BOTH. But if you get a full off-season with Brewer and still have Marion, you're OK at the SF position. The question then becomes, do you throw in Beaubois? Phoenix WILL ask for him, they have to. If you're giving up the face of your franchise and the other team really isn't giving you more than "fillers" in their eyes, you've got to ask for the best young piece available.
If you're about winning now, Nash would be a move of that ilk.

I can't see us giving up Boobs for a 37 year old Nash, aside from that they have Brooks already in place to carry Nash's reign. Plus with us taking on say a Childress, it should just be a contract-contract move, maybe some cash going to PHX, since that's how Sarver runs the show over there.

Would LOVE to see Nash back here. I think that his "hint" not too long ago that he'd be interested in a return to Dallas bodes well. He's too classy to force his way out, but i could see him giving the Suns a friendly nudge in that direction. If that's what he really wants than taking back Childress and giving them some picks and young bodies might actually be enough. Wouldn't add Roddy unless other assets are coming back this way.

I wouldn't be against acquiring Nash, especially if we avoid a lockout so Kidd can squeeze in another season. I'd even consider giving up Roddy, since there's no guarantee he'll ever put us over the top before Dirk's prime fades...
Something along the lines of Butler/Roddy for Nash/Hill? That seems like overpaying on our end, but it might work:
Guards: Nash/Kidd/Terry/(Stevenson?)/DoJo
Forwards: Dirk/Marion/Hill/(Peja?)/Brewer
Centers: Chandler/(Haywood?)/Mahinmi
Still lots of pieces to work more trades, especially Haywood (if only there was some way to swing Nash/Hill/Gortat). This would definitely be a win-now move with little regard to this franchise's future, but it could pay off.
Interesting offseason scenario anyway...
