Playoffs GDT: Mavs @ Lakers, Game 2, 5/4/2011, 9:30pm Central (TNT)
The NBA "experts" still give the Mavs no chance in this series. Their defiance of Chuck will not go unpunished.
Tonight, the Mavs seize control of the series and break the back of a champion.

Two additional notes from Game 1 discovered tonight:
The comeback in Game 1 was Dallas’ largest comeback win in a postseason game since June 3, 2006 (trailed Phoenix by 18). It was also tied for their fifth-largest come-from-behind victory in a playoff game since 2001 (came back from 16 down at Sacramento on
5/10/03).
The 30 assists in Game 1 marked the most assists Dallas has recorded in a playoff game since May 15, 1988 (36 vs. Denver). The Mavericks were 7-1 in the regular season when they handed out 30-plus dimes in a game.

Teams that win Game One on the road win Game Two only 25% of the time. It will be incredibly tough, but a tremendous opportunity.

"Semis" on whowins refers to the conference finals. It's only 23% for this round.

Gotta love our chances in this series if we pull out the win tonight. We need to come out strong and not be content with the split because the Lakers can easily steal some in our house.

I will give the Mavs a 10% chance to win this one too. The Lakers are not the Pismo Beach Panthers. They will try to dominate to make a statement, they will be on fire, they will get the calls all night long, the fans will be louder, and the Mavs will have difficulties to keep their composure.
Having said that, if the Mavs play it cool, stay in reaching distance and play solid defense down the stretch, anything is possible. I hope the Mavs don't get a big lead in the first three quarters, cause that will only set the stage for a huge comeback with the fans going crazy. I hope the Lakers don't get a double digit lead either, cause I doubt the Mavs can climb out of a big hole two times in a row. We need to keep it a one or two possession game all night long and then turn the defensive screws tighter in the final five minutes. Then anything is possible.
GOO MAVS!!!

3 words...Salvatore
_____________________________
Game Five
Dwyane Wade was the star yet again with 43 points, shooting as many free throws as all the Mavericks combined (a fact that did not sit well with head coach Avery Johnson[3]), leading the Heat to their third straight win over Dallas after being down 0–2 in the series. After getting the ball in to Wade with 9.1 seconds left, Dallas committed a controversial foul to send him to the line to shoot two free throws with 1.9 seconds left on the game clock. Wade hit the first free throw when Josh Howard mistakenly called the Mavericks' last remaining time out which would prevent them from advancing the ball should Wade convert on the second attempt. Wade eventually made the second free throw to give his team a one point lead after which Devin Harris attempted and missed a desperate half court buzzer beater. Wade set an NBA Finals record for most made free-throws in a game with 21.[4]
After the game, Dirk Nowitzki kicked a ball into the stands and Mavericks owner Mark Cuban caused many "acts of misconduct" resulting in both of them being fined $5,000 and $250,000 respectively.[5]
June 18
9:00pm ET 5 Dallas Mavericks 100, Miami Heat 101 (OT) OT AmericanAirlines Arena, Miami
Attendance: 20,145
Referees:
No. 17 Joe Crawford
No. 14 Joe DeRosa
No. 15 Bennett Salvatore
___________________________________
No doubt Mavs fans will be watching Salvatore and the entire officiating crew...all ready and poised to jump all over the officiating if indeed it goes the way many expect. Perhaps, so much focus will be put on the officials, that they will be forced to call a fair game...then again, if Stern wants to push this out to 6-7 games and knock the Mavs off...then Salvatore is your hinchman.
5 on 8, do the Mavs have what it takes?

Despite being responsible for pretty much the most egregious call in Mavs history, I actually think Salvatore is better than some of the others we could get. I'd take him over Dan Crawford (Portland Game 2 notwithstanding) any day of the week.

I think the Mavs confidence is sky-high right now and that alone will make this close.

This game will be much more difficult than game one. The Lakers need to prove something and the Mavs have to come out strong to withstand their attack. Moreover, as the Lakers could easily steal a game in Dallas, a victory now is even more important.

I think the key tonight is in the middle. The Lakers kill us when they go to Bynum early. He can score and get Chandler into foul trouble. If they don't do this, Chandler without fouls just gets better and more aggressive as the game goes on. He is also able to run the floor and leave Chandler in the dust. The Mavs need to use Tyson on offense to run Bynum off the floor.
In Game one, Kobe took over early and often. At least this year we have a series of fresh bodies to throw at him, and we don't have to double team him. We can't stop him, but the Lakers are not as good when he dominates and everyone else goes ice cold. I expect this game to see Kobe the distributor. That worries me more. However, what we saw against Portland was Aldridge being a monster in the 1st 2 games, but Chandler's defense steadily improving as the series went on. If that happens again for him against Bynum and Gasol, we win this series in 6.
Go MAVS!

I don't know...I feel like Salvatore is a guy that really gets swayed by the home crowd. Not as much as Bavetta, but close. I don't have any evidence to support that, just seems that way to me.

Statistics don't take into account how good or bad either team is. This Mavs team ain't scared. I ain't scared. Mavs with another workman-like victory, pulling away in the 4th a little bit earlier than last game. Book it.

my perfect scenario
it's like game 1 but in reverse, we're up 16 and the crowd is dead. then they storm back and at the very end of the game go up by 2 points with a few seconds left and laker fans are going berzerk. then dirk does what kobe couldn't and calmly knocks down a buzzer beating 3.
