GDT 1/13/12: Bucks @ Mavs (7:30 CT/FSW)
Bucks (4-6, 0-6 away)
Mavs (6-5, 4-2 home)
http://espn.go.com/nba/preview?gameId=320113006
Quote:
The Dallas Mavericks did not worry too much when they lost their first three games. They also have not been overly excited about their current winning stretch. Hoping to remain grounded, the Mavericks look for a fourth consecutive victory Friday night while trying to keep the Milwaukee Bucks winless on the road.
After going without a victory in its first three games against Miami, Denver and Oklahoma City, Dallas has regrouped to win six of eight and find its rhythm. However, the defending champs have managed to stay within the moment during their current three-game winning streak.
"It's early in the season," guard Delonte West told the Mavericks' official website.
Though Dallas (6-5) is averaging just 93.2 points, it's held its last eight opponents to 88.3 per game after yielding at least 104 in each of the first three contests.
"It's all about how we compete," coach Rick Carlisle said. "We're building some consistency with our competitiveness."
The Mavericks played fairly well defensively in a 90-85 win at Boston on Wednesday but needed a Dirk Nowitzki layup with 5.1 seconds left to go ahead for good.
"It's a fun situation to be in," said Nowitzki, who finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. "Everybody's looking at you and your team really depends on you, so I like to be in the position where I can make something happen."
Carlisle should like that his team has won three in a row without injured guard Jason Kidd and Nowitzki averaging 14.7 points during that span. Nowitzki's 18.6 overall average is by far his lowest in 12 seasons. West, who has started in place of Kidd in his first season with Dallas, had 12 points Wednesday and Jason Terry scored a team-high 18.
"We're getting a little more familiarity with our new guys and the challenge will be to carry this into Friday night," said Carlisle, who was ejected for picking up back-to-back technical fouls.
The Mavericks have lost two straight versus the Bucks (4-6), who are looking to avoid dropping their first seven road games for the first time since 2004-05. Dallas had a seven-game home winning streak against Milwaukee snapped with a 103-99 defeat Dec. 13, 2010. Nowitzki, who scored 30 in that contest, has averaged exactly that many points and 8.7 rebounds in his last three games against the Bucks.
After suffering through an 0-5 western trip, Milwaukee has won two in a row. Brandon Jennings scored 27 and Stephen Jackson added 25 in Thursday's 102-93 victory over Detroit. Milwaukee has averaged 102.0 points on 48.5 percent shooting while going 4-0 at home. That's a drastic difference than on the road, where the Bucks are scoring just 88.8 per game and shooting 40.3 percent.
"We're not playing a very efficient game (on the road)," said Jackson, who has totaled 59 points on 21-of-34 shooting in the last two games.
Jennings had 23 points and 10 assists at Dallas last season. Milwaukee's Scott Skiles became the 39th coach in NBA history to reach 400 victories Thursday.

So do we give the Bucks some championship rings for breaking our long win streak last season?

We need to trade for Jax or we will never win a ring. Bucks got him for nothing...

0-6 away.
We don't have a 10+ win streak yet, so Cardinal better plays 15+

"The Dallas Mavericks did not worry too much when they lost their first three games."
But all of the Dallas Mavericks Messageboards/Forums were slitting their wrists.....

We need to establish Dirk early in the game and keep going to him. We cannot take the Bucks lightly, don't be fooled by their record. That team is no joke. Let's get a win tonight.

Fixed.
In this compressed season the Mavericks should just approach every game as a kill everything mentality. There will be some games that they don't show it, but as of late the Mavericks are slowly progressing where a defending championship team should be and that is getting the W. It might be ugly, blood might be spilled, but I'm on 28 hours of no sleep for no reason and I might end up passing out anytime soon and will probably wake up in time for the game lol

Do we play the Bucks again? Might want to keep track of when so the Mavs can start a 10+ game winning streak early.

He's decent. However, his 55 Point game seemed to make everyone raise their expectations about him. After a while people actually started comparing him to Allen Iverson. But as of late, he's been underwhelming. His biggest issue is he can't shoot. But he can defend, pass and is improving at running an offense. If he keeps working on his jumper he'll eventually be a nightmare to defend, but till then he'll only be an average player.

Jenning's still isn't effecient but he has made progress in that, he settles for the three too much still but he can go off, he is shooting 49% from 2 after shooting 42.2% from 2 last year. The problem with the Bucks is it looks like Bogut's injuries have taken a toll on him finally and he looks like no where near the player he was when he was healthy (he was a top 5 center when healthy).

I expect them to intentionally foul Brendan Haywood in key situations, much like they did last year.

I expect that strategy won't work very well when down 20+ points...

Completely untrue. Bogut has put up 14/9/3/2 this year. That's only slightly worse than his career best, and slightly above his career averages. He's still a Top 5 center.

He's shooting 44% from the floor, he has more shot attempts than points, he is not a top 5 center anymore, in fact ever sense 08-09 his fg% has dropped each year.

NVM it must be because I've recently expressed my interest in finding a 57 kg, 163 cm girl?

6 games. I've watched a few games this year, and he's missed a bunch of chippies he usually makes. His offensive game did suffer a bit thanks to the injuries, but he is definitely a top 5 center. You're just flat out wrong on that.
Last year he was 8th in the NBA id RB%
LED the NBA in blocks per game.
4th in the NBA in defensive rating.
5th in the NBA in defensive Win Shares.

Bogut was 53rd out of 64 qualified centers in TS% last year, he was one of the least effecient centers in the game he still impacts the game on boards and on defense but is a net negative on the offensive end now, thats not a top 5 center. Dwight,Bynum,Horford, Nene, and Marc Gasol are better than him for starters.

This pretty much sums the play so far for each player. As I expected especially that Kidd is way down there in terms of on/off court numbers.

Centers are for offense 1st and defense 2nd. Horford, Nene, and Gasol don't even come remotely close to his level on defense. Their offense edge does not make up for his dominance on the other end of the court.

Delonte West's On Court Off Court Numbers. With him on the court, the offense has been a little worse, but the defense has been much better. Tells a story so far through the first 11 games.
Offense: Pts per 100 Poss. 99.1 102.4 -3.3
Defense: Pts per 100 Poss. 91.8 110.5 -18.7

I'm really surprised to see Trix that low, but yeah that seems about right otherwise.

Marion also wasn't a good +/- player last year. I think because he isn't on the floor most of the time when our bench with Dirk and Terry makes a run.
Nice little memory from '09: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wbt9sbz6j4
Roddy also had one of his better games in his Rookie season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWQ4NUjJfEc

He also had the (+/-) misfortune of backing up Dirk at PF last year. His on-court +/- numbers were just fine at SF and when he was paired up with Dirk, though.
This year I think it's been more about lagging intensity. Marion's a very effective two-way player when he's really engaged, but his quirky offensive game doesn't demand enough attention from opposing defenses for him to be much of a positive when he's coasting, which he's done his fair share of this season.
And he's been on the court with Kidd a lot.

Yeah Marion not the kind of player that benefits from the +/- metric. Wouldn't read too much into that.
