5-on-5 Roundtable: NBA's shooting guards
Interesting.
ESPN is doing postion rating all week - yesterday it was small forwards today it is SG
5-on-5 Roundtable: NBA's shooting guards
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/...hooting-guards
here is what was said about our Vince Carter in the category of...
Who's the most underrated shooting guard in the NBA?
Pelton: Vince Carter. Would you believe that Carter finished fourth in WARP behind the aforementioned big three? There's a wide gap between them, certainly, but the comparison to what Carter used to be has overshadowed what he still contributes in Dallas. Though Monta Ellis will make nearly four times as much as Carter, there's a good chance VC is the most valuable shooting guard on the Mavericks next season.

VC has been most effective at the SF position with Mavs, and is slated to play there this season as well... But you'd have to actually watch the Mavs to know that, and it doesn't seem like most of the writers at ESPN do.

+1 on that - AND that really ticks me off.
It is really easy to see which reporters are the "true fans of the game" on that network. I am glad we have our man BG on staff there. I often will glance at who the author is before reading the article.

Watch? Just go to any advanced stat site on the internet to a site like 82games.com to see that he played about 78% of his minutes at the SF and averaged 18.7 PER there (vs. only 14.7 PER at SG).
1,630 min at SF last year
417 min at SG last year
There are exceptionally easy ways to get around actually watching sports, but it takes 5-10 seconds of research, which most of these pundits fail to do.

Roundtable: NBA's power forwards
No mention of Dirk from the pundits, but he's getting a LOT of love from the fans in the comments section (Duncan too)... Seems like folks who actually watch basketball aren't so quick to write him off.

well, well, well or own Jose Calderon gets a mention...
under the category of most underrated....
Roundtable - Point Guards http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/...a-point-guards
Gordon: Jose Calderon. He had the highest assist percentage of any starting point guard last season, yet he only rated as a throw-in for the Rudy Gay trade. He isn't quite Chris Paul or Deron Williams, no, but he should clearly be able to help out the Mavericks; that his shooting has inched up year after year is a bonus, too.

His shooting has "inched up?"
Dude is a 40% career 3pt shooter and shot 52% from three with Detroit and was shooting 43% on the season with Toronto before that. I'd say that "inched up" implies
1) that he was mediocre
2) that he only improved a tiny bit
I think he meant to say that Calderon is a terrific pass-first PG and when he can't make the pass, he is #1 in scoring efficiency (by TS%) and #1 in 3pt pecentage (for players averaging at least 3-3pt FGA per game)
