What is wrong with Devin Harris??
I'm kinda confused tbh. Devin had resolved a big problem for him in shooting the three ball. From the eyeball test his defense was average to above average.
He was closing games.. I cannot believe that the mavs couldn't have just moved him into Jameer's spot to shore up the PG position.
Was he too frantic during pressure situations? Did he not facilitate enough (that might be it). What?

They like him better in the second unit.

I"ve heard that but it doesn't answer my question really. He's been in the second unit and closing...Just like jet was doing?? I don't get it

Preaching to the choir, but they've been set with him coming off the bench for some time.
Harris has also never been a pure pg. I think he gets Dirk the ball better than most on the team, but come on...Rondo was too good to pass up.
Hey, Harris got us Kidd last time. The fact that we kept him while getting Rondo really strengthens the position. Rondo/Harris/JJB is as deep as you get.
They essentially gambled that Tyson was good enough to be able to trade Wright...in order to greatly strengthen the pg spot. In a game dominated by elite and quick guards...makes sense.

Patience with Jameer was the right way to go as long as he was with the team, IMO. The Mavs were winning, the Devin/Brandan bench combo was flourishing, and IMO the Mavs' best shot at contending with the roster they had when I woke up this morning was for Jameer to ultimately get more comfortable and start contributing more on offense as a member of the starting unit. Fortunately, the Mavs didn't have to wait for that.

Carlisle has almost always operated that way, in that his starting lineup and closing lineup were rarely the same. There is absolutely nothing more to it... Devin is just a much better option off the bench at this stage of his career.

Well I certainly expect devin will not be closing anymore. Rick will probably play MORE 3-guard lineups now.

I understand that starting doesn't mean anything to rick and I agree with it. But ENDING does and devin was ending the games. So the move for Rondo says that they didn't like devin ending games that much either or being the undisputed point leader for the team, or something. I don't know.
It was weird...if you thought devin was doing a fine job ending, then these assets could have been used elsewhere. Obviously the mavs did not think devin was good enough.
I'm not arguing with them as much as asking, why they did not?

Well, Devin is a much better FT shooter than Rondo, so it probably just depends on the situation.

Devin may not close anymore, but I think he can still have a more expanded role in big games and in the playoffs. I could see Monta/Rondo/Devin soaking up all of the back court minutes in certain situations.

Hell Dwight Howard is twice the free throw shooter Rondo is.

Just my vibe from it all is that Devin is a very good option at point guard, but Rondo is possibly an elite option. I don't think it had anything to do with displeasure with Devin's play so much as it was that there was a potentially game-changing player available at a very doable price.
For what it's worth, I'm also very happy that we held onto Devin. If Felton gives the team anything off the bench as the 5th or 6th guard... holy cow this backcourt is going to be really good.
