PGT: Mavs get first home win, extend NO's streak to 6
What, no PGT after a win?

Good win. Powell continues to impress. Thought the team did a better job getting the ball to Dirk in his spots. Wes and Deron showed a little more burst. Devin didn't force things and the offense flowed better for it.

I am really liking Deron as our PG. The ball doesn't stop moving, and he rarely forces shots. I think he is going to be a stud this year. He actually tries on defense too. I love it.

Anybody see Powell interviewing with Skin after the game?
The dude is all business and seems to be a coach's dream.
I think this guy has a much higher ceiling than I originally anticipated.

Loving what I'm seeing from Deron and Zaza!
RayRay has been electric in spots as well.
Go Mavs!

He's one of the exciting stories so far this season. I 100% admit that I thought he'd be washed out of the league like so many other kids we've had recently, not putting up 11-8.

Pretty much the only exciting thing so far.
Shame we have to wait on three starters to get fully healthy.

He's in a perfect situation for himself and the Mavs. He's young but not an infant on a semi-rebuilding team that just happens to have an aging Superstar that plays the same position who can be a great mentor.
He has the whole package to be starter material and his only weaknesses (Strength, Finishing at Rim, Aggression Control, Experience) should improve over time.
I certainly don't expect him to become another Dirk by any means but do feel he has the capacity to become more of a complete all-around player.

See, that's the great thing about Powell's role right now -- he doesn't need to be the "next Dirk", he just has to be able to play efficiently enough to limit Dirk's minutes in the regular season... And he'll earn additional minutes paired next to Dirk in smaller 4/5 lineups... I have no idea how all that will translate down the road, but right now Carlisle has given Powell an assignment, and he's sticking to it. That bodes well for his future in Dallas.

Williams, Powell, and Dirk highlights. Williams is definitely moving better game by game.

Williams needs to be our best player, and I think he can be. Of course we're gonna be a balanced team but I'd like to see Williams as the go-to guy (along with Dirk of course) in crunch time.

I don't think Powell has to be the star here. Not with Matthews/Parsons and to some extent, Williams. He just has to be a significant piece and spark plug. It was amazing how much Wright brought to the table when it came to +/- without ever being a guy capable of doing what Dirk does. Wright just kept teams honest by always probing and keeping teams on their toes down low. If Powell can get his midrange jumper down as well, he will be more than we need as a young PF to go with our revamped/younger core.
Get us Whiteside or another legitimate center this summer and I think we have a really bright future if Powell can keep developing and Matthews/Parsons can get/stay healthy. Powell (24), Matthews (29), and Parsons (27) are a nice little core.

I don't think there are stars in a Pop or Carlisle system these days. A star for them will be guys who can do things as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Question on Dirk: Has he gone back to his original shooting technique? I remember him trying to change it last summer and I thought it had an impact negatively. Or maybe he's finally gotten comfortable with the new release?

I can't find the article right now but I remember reading something recently where Dirk was talking about his shot - he said something about it being a combination of old and new, at least when it comes to the release. Found a happy medium between the fast release he was practicing last year and what he was traditionally doing throughout his career.
If someone find the article, please post it.
