Default Joe Johnson

Rumors are that he will be offered a buyout. He should be a target for the Mavs. He would take a lot of stress off Dirk because Parsons could slide over to four. It would help Matthews as well because Matthews would not have to guard bigger threes.

Not a bad idea...but we'd for sure only get him for the rest of the season. No way would I want him signed to a contract. And the Mavs wouldnt be able to afford him either.

What about Al Horford? Id love to be able to get him someway, but dont think we have enough assests on the table

He is done. Shooting like crap and still a wannabe go to guy

Horford is another rental until the end of the season because he will be an UFA. So it doesnt take much to get him but i dont see th Hawks trading him now for crap

34 and could be decent. Too bad he can't take 4/5 minutes, because we need a decent big to replace Charlie V

Not sure if the FO would be willing to shake up the locker room over Joe Johnson... He could improve this team, but he's certainly not putting us any closer to a ring.

I don't think Johnson and DWill ended things on good terms. Plus, I don't think he is a very good fit under Rick.

It's funny that JJ thinks Deron was part of why he started sucking. Things haven't gotten better since they split

My first reaction to this idea was a big no to Johnson. As interesting as it could be, he has been in the past just a bigger version of Monta Ellis - ball dominant. The difference? Johnson is able to make threes and should be a bit better passer.

I would really consult D-Will on the matter of picking up Johnson. I don't think they have so much bad blood. Plus, there's no chance Johnson would start as a Maverick, so all the misfits that Johnson and D-Will had in Brooklyn would be out of topic.

Problem with Johnson is that he is ball dominant. That doesn't with RC system. However, I do believe that this would make Mavericks stronger in general. Mavs can already play different styles and having Johnson come off the bench would give you another option how to play against any particular opponent.

I think that signing Johnson is much more significant in terms of that now you can trade freely Harris, Barea or Felton without concerns of how it influences your team. So, in theory, if you pick up Johnson, you also can get decent extra player in return. Although I have no idea who that decent extra could be... And of course, it is most likely that Johnson won't be available until after the trade deadline.

I really do like that Johnson is able to hit threes. This has been annoying for me since beginning of season with the Mavs. However I believe that Grizzlies have bigger need for Johnson and possibly provide better fit. If I had to predict, then Johnson ends up in Memphis.

Nobody should be wanting Johnson because he could defend bigger players that Matthews has a problem with. Seriously, no.

1) D-Will and Johnson hate each other

2) Johnson is an old guy who hasn't had a good season since 13-14. Perhaps his prior crappy seasons have more to do with his age than a slump.

3) Johnson plays Matthews' position. We are rife with guards/SFs. We need a PF.

4) He isn't probably getting bought out. In a trade we have nothing they'd want unless you'd trade some of our big contracts to match Johnson's 24 million.
16.4mill - Matthews
15.3mill - Parsons
8.7mill - Dirk
5.4mill - Williams
5.2mill - Zaza

You'd have to offer 2-3 of those big-contract guys to even get close to 24mill. Would we be better if we traded Zaza and Matthews for a downgraded Matthews?
