Default GDT game 81 - Nuggets (38-42) at Mavs (32-48) 7:30 FSSW

Nuggets were eliminated from playoff contention with the OKC game a few days back. Mavs have their last game in front of the crowd and are suiting everyone but Curry. Romo will have a jersey and will be on the bench. Everything points to a win for us, which would effectively eliminate our chances of getting 7/8, but I can see Cuban wanting a win for the hometown crowd. Hopefully I'm wrong. This is also game one of a home-away B2B.

Injuries
Curry - shoulder - out for season

A long as Romo enjoys himself, the franchise would consider that a W.

Yeah, some people are calling it trashy, including an idiot at the Houston Chronicle, but it's a nice gesture for Dallas to circle the wagons and honor players and the synergy can be helpful. It obviously failed because Jordan is a man-baby, but the lure of the Cowboys can open doors for the Mavs and vice-versa. Also sets a nice precedent that Dallas is a sports city united.

I don't get the outcry. It very obviously is just a tribute to Romo and his retirement and what it means to Dallas.

He literally is just playing with his son during shoot around and the staff has said he won't be getting into the actual game. It truly is just a game day experience and nothing else.

This.

And eff Houston. Nothing is more trashy than watching their POS free throw shooting turnover king star player cry in post game interviews about the MVP race.

Easy win.

And if we're scoreboard watching, it would be nice to see the Kings win over the Suns, and OKC should be resting most people versus the Timberwolves...lost these next two and it gets interesting at the 7th and 8th picks currently have tie breakers over us via head to head, if I'm not mistaken. The difference between picking 7th vs 9th would be huge.

Isn't it a coin flip with regards to tied records? Head to head means nothing I thought for draft order? When I do searches on google it always ends up with articles in 2010-2015 and all say there is no head to head for lotto teams and it's a coin flip. The head to head is to determine playoff seeding which then would effect draft position for playoff teams not teams in the lotto.

2-0 (win both tonight and tomorrow) and two losses by Pelicans would move us to 10th

1-1 (win tonight or tomorrow) guarantees us 9th seed regardless of Wolves, Kings, or Pelicans (can't move up or down)

0-2 (loss tonight and tomorrow) AND 1-1 for Kings or Wolves will get us 7th or 8th.

0-2 (loss tonight and tomorrow) AND 0-2 for both Kings or Wolves will keep us at 9th.

like this one-
http://www.fearthesword.com/2012/4/2...ery-tiebreaker
Quote:
With so many teams bunched together in the fight for draft lottery position, a myth has started to emerge on Fear the Sword. And that myth is that the Cavaliers can "win" a tiebreaker against a team such as the Toronto Raptors by virtue of losing 3 of the 4 games against them this season.

That is 100% false. Here's how the NBA does tiebreakers for the NBA Draft Lottery:

In the event that teams finish with the same record, each tied team receives the average of the total number of combinations for the positions that they occupy. In 2007, the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Portland Trail Blazers tied for the sixth worst record. The average of the 6th and 7th positions in the lottery was taken, resulting in each team getting 53 combinations (the average of 63 and 43). Should the average number not be an integer, a coin flip is then used to determine which team or teams receive the extra combination(s). The result of the coin flip is also used to determine who receives the earlier pick in the event that neither of the tied teams wins one of the first three picks via the lottery.

Yes. Regardless whether you love or hate Romo, he was the face of Americas's Team Dallas Cowboys for 13 years and played through all kinds of injuries. This is very classy move to show respect to someone regardless of personal opinion. I'll be tuning in early to catch the pre-game and enjoy the show.

So we basically need to keep losing, and hope the coin falls in our favor... Just lose, Mavs!

I'm one of those Eagles/Redskins/Giants fans but even I think this is a great move to honor Romo.

The way I see all this talk about the draft is not 7, 8, or 9. I see 2-3% chance to get #1 or 6-12% Top 3.

Lets be a little optimistic here

Should we sign Don Knobler to a contract too since he's at every game? I don't think signing Romo to go warm up with the team is a huge deal, but I don't really understand it. It's clearly a publicity stunt/effort to sell tickets. Romo was a good player, but not great. Do you think the Celtics will sign Brady to come play with them when he finally retires?

Name me a sports franchise that doesn't do publicity stunts to sell tickets?

Tonight, Romo scores 15 TDs, makes 5 TD passes to Dirk, runs for 50 yards, but is intercepted 5 times, for a loss of 55 yards...

...however, the Mavs win, just to make him feel loved by people other than his Candice Crawford....

Mavs - 100
Otter-Nuggets - 98

I'm sure the Celts will extend an offer to Brady to do something, but I highly doubt Brady give two turds about them or goes to near the amount of Mavs games Romo has.

And yes, Sign Don Knobler for sure. Why is that even a question? Annd allow him to wear his outrageous game gear instead of the mavs warmup.

I attribute this mostly to Romo CHOOSING to go and support the Mavs for quite some time rather than just a local QB that is retiring. Obviously yea, a publicity thing too.

I don't get the hate Bp. I actually don't believe this is a publicity stunt to sell tickets; I genuinely believe the Mavericks are trying to honor a very classy, tough Dallas sports icon who has always supported them.

Anyone see Dirk's tweet then Romo's response?

Dirk said get to the game early and watch Romo shoot airballs in the layup lines

I'm not hating. I'm just stating my opinion. Pudge is a Dallas sports icon, but I didn't see any of the Dallas teams sign him to come suit up for them? This team is out of the playoffs and most of our starters are sitting. Cuban is trying to make headlines and sell tickets. Nothing wrong with that.

I can't count how many times I've seen Romo & Witten in the stands during a Mavs game... This guy is as much fan as Cuban was back when he bought the team.

Pudge wasn't quite the Mavs fan that Romo is or at least wasn't seen attending as many games.

But when you are out of the PO picture with only a few games left you have to be creative to sell tickets. Just Mark's marketing brilliance at work.

Would a win hurt the Mavs in the draft at this point? Looks like the team is set at top 10.

A win may tie us at 10 with Pelicans, so yes.

0-2 guarantees 9 and keeps the possibility of 7/8 alive. It's been posted everywhere.

Well that means top 10 is about sealed then. For sure they aren't winning tomorrow night.

Noel smacked the hell out of that shot.

What does that even mean? We have our 3rd-stringers in right now... Half of our starting lineup was 2nd-stringers.

I'm looking at the bad jump shots. Something Markkanen could probably knock in being a Mavs backup to start his career.

You're looking at 3RD-STRINGERS... Christ, if you draft Dennis Smith then you have Yogi supplying firepower off the bench.

You don't waste the best pick you've had in forever on some guy who's going to bolster your bench... Are you high?
