GDT game 27 - Mavs (7-19) at Wolves (15-11) 6:00pm FSSW
Mavs venture to the frozen wastes of Minnesota to face the Timberwolves.
Wolves come in having won their last game and 5 of their last 10
Mavs come in having lost two in a row and also amazingly 5-5 as well.

Tonight, the Mavs win the elusive 8, and from that point on, that 8 turns into this number ∞ of Mavs' Ws...
Mavs - 102
Otterwolves - 100

@bobbykaralla: Rick Carlisle stressed importance of Yogi Ferrell staying out foul trouble. Said not only did it keep him off the floor but also forced Barea/Harris into too many minutes.

@bobbykaralla: Mavs starters: Ferrell, Matthews, Barnes, Dirk, Kleber. Or Kleber, Barnes, Dirk. Or Barnes, Kleber, Dirk. Not sure on the order anymore. But those are the starters.

Nice foul KAT that is somehow on Kleber. Reffing just gets worse and worse.

Get Dirk out of the game if he can't grab an easy defensive rebound. That's pure laziness. Great for tanking, but coach can't be happy.
It's very conflicting watching a game and wanting to lose yet you want players to play the game the right way.

Hoping we have a trade or two lined up wherein we send out
Useful guards and McRoberts and receive a moderately bad contract and draft assets. Only way we finish 3rd worst. That and Grizz get healthy Conley back and don’t trade Gasol

Look, it should be alarming that these games play out like this. This one is on Ricks imo. He fn put yogi in place of Cleveland who has great size and length and intuition defensively. Hed been killing wiggins and playing really well over all. We got abused because of that exact substitution on the yogi - wiggins mismatch. The reason its alarming is becsuse its happened a few times before and he should know better... and it's clear to a anyone watching thst mis.atch is the issue. It's not like he doesn't want to win and roll out a tank to fall off the cliff down the crucial stretch. It's because he thhinks yogi will provide enough offensively to counter what Cleveland would provide.
Top thast off with the fact thst we called Motley up in the middle of a great run in g league, he had rythm and confidence and was working some range into the offensive mix and new post moves dow n there against game compwtition and he won't sniff a god damned minute until who knows when.
On the other hand I'm thankful thst Cleveland got plenty of minutes and showed some fancy attributes vs near elite talent.

If Motley isn't playing, then I can understand. Kleber is pretty much the only player I care about seeing right now.

It’s difficult with my schedule. Usually watch games on my phone at the gym. Games just aren’t good enough to have the game on TV and comment on my phone.

Are you not excited about Cleveland? That guy is a pleasant surprise. He embarrassed Wiggins last night.

Yeah, I couldn't believe that either. Wiggins was laying it in over Yogi's head and Cleveland was sitting on the bench.

Yeah, I just feel like he is a guy that will go back to the bench once DSJ gets back, but I hope I'm wrong. I just hate getting excited about guys that don't play.
At least Kleber is a firm starter. What do you (all of you) think his ceiling is? Better defending Ryan Anderson?

Cleveland is so raw. I like him, but other than length and defense he didn't show much. 1-4 on shooting isn't going to get it done if your only skill is athleticism/ individual defense and even that you are weak on the fundamentals of team defense.
I like him and I hope we give more young guys a look, but I wasn't super impressed.

I don't see him as weak on fundamentals of team defense. At most he's just new. I don't know what one could expect more from him last night, except to see him finish the job vs Wiggins and get to play the minutes he has earned late in the game. Wiggins was held to 10 pts, and most of those were scored against Yogi. Cleveland blocked wiggins 2 times as well as 3 steals, 2 of which were from iso situations. He also defended well on switches a few times so I didn't see any noteworthy holes defensively.
I would forget about him and scoring for a bit. We have too many guards and other players that create offense and none of them are deferring to him. All we need him to do is continue to take the open shots and attack the glass when it's available.

I love Klebah. He's surprisingly quick and athletic as well as intelligent. He has the heart and hustle so I think the sky is the limit on him. It took Ryan Anderson a long time and things changing around him to be what he is now but I think Kleber can be better. He's more athletic and rugged but I doubt his perimiter shot ever gets to that level.

Yea, it's frustrating to see. I get that us fans want to barely lose most of these games while maybe winning a few of the rival matches or heated games, but that was not the way to do it. I don't think anyone should be happy about when the youngs are playing well and then sit, for no apparent reason.
The +/- stat can blough me. He habitually overweighs it and Hopefully that wasn't on his mind. I can't even excuse Rick for this type of shit anymore. I'm a fan of his but he needs to get his head on straight about what this season has become. DEC 16th should be the day his spirit is crushed and then he better roll over and give up the ghost.

That would be an excellent ceiling, especially with the defense.

I know that you know that I know that you know the answer to that, but:
1. Rick didn't do that on purpose so we could lose.
2. Anytime you have the record we do you have to explore what you have with the young guys, especially when they are playing really well. There's no point behind what he did. Not even if he wanted to lose would that have been the correct approach.

And his rebounding is solid. It's more effort based than natural talent with him but hey...whatever grabs them.
