The man just can't stop tampering. Now just does so under the guise of being an "NBA Ambassador."
Best course is to ignore him and surround Luka with a team that can win playoff games. We have two seasons of Luka before he's an RFA. He'll likely qualify for a 5th year, 30% max extension with 8% raises next offseason if he makes another All NBA team, which would guarantee he's a Mav through the 26/27 season (or a season earlier if he has a player option). He's not going anywhere for a while unless we completely screw the pooch.
Instead of having anxiety about him leaving we need to put a team around him. The Heat are a great example for us to emulate of a deep versatile team with no clear third star. They did that by drafting extremely well. If Giannis comes here, great; we need to act like he isn't and draft accordingly.

It's not tampering anymore
He's not in their front office.
But let's be real here what team wouldn't want Luka?
LA is a top destination and we all know Luka likes the spotlight. It's Mark's job to convince Luka that Dallas is better and he'll build a title team around him.
Can't hate on Magic for saying what every other team in the NBA is privately saying (we want luka).

No but it’s utterly classless in the way that he did it. Especially after he openly tampered in the past.

Good lord, this is much ado about nothing. He's just another talking head on tv. This isn't "tampering" at all. Michael Irvin does this kind of sh*t all the time. If you watch the clip, it was clearly a joke- although they will certainly try to court Luka when he is a free agent, as will EVERY TEAM IN THE NBA. He's only a generational superstar with the potential to be one of the greatest players of all time. If Dirk was on one of these silly talk shows and said off the cuff, "Giannis, come to the Mavs," while he and the hosts were laughing, I don't think anyone would think anything of it.
But even if he actually was seriously trying to recruit Luka here, please consider two things.
#1- Luka isn't going to be an unrestricted free agent until 2023.
#2- In case anyone hasn't been paying attention for the last thirty years, Magic Johnson is a bit of a clown. Since retiring as a player, he has failed pretty miserably at everything basketball-related, and a few things outside of basketball too. He was an absolutely atrocious color commentator for like a few weeks. As a coach, he lasted all of 16 games. As an executive, he lost a power struggle to a Rob Lowe lookalike and then instead of quietly stepping down and preserving his dignity, he turned it into a very public soap opera. His post-playing NBA career flopped more spectacularly than his career as a late night talk show host.
Nothing this man says should be taken seriously or given any credence. I'm sure he thinks he recruited Lebron to the Lakers, but anyone who was paying even a little attention could see that Lebron was planning to sign with the Lakers the moment Kyrie forced his way out of Cleveland. Jeanie Buss apparently thought she needed Magic's name to show the media and the basketball world that the franchise was in good hands after years of drama and instability, but she clearly didn't want him making any of the actual basketball decisions, and probably couldn't wait to be rid of him once she didn't need him anymore.
NOBODY is going to the Lakers because Magic Johnson asks them to, ok? If Luka or anyone else goes to the Lakers, it's because they're in Los Angeles, and they're the damn Lakers. It's not because a diva and an attention whore like Magic says on a goofy talk show, "Please come to the Lakers!"

I bet Luka sees this and thinks:
"Pfft, I plan on beating the Lakers heads in, along with every other team very soon, as the clear leader of my own franchise, so no I don't want to be on your front running team with fake fans."

Also let's be real... who does Luka look up to more? Magic or Dirk? I am not saying which had a better NBA career or is a better NBA talent, but which player does Luka look up to more as a European player? I think it's clearly Dirk even though his playing style honestly reflects Magic's far more than Dirk's.

Did anyone actually watch the clip that started all of this? Completely innocuous, and turned into clickbait for no reason.
As far as I know, a player has literally NEVER turned down a rookie max extension, so you're pretty much guaranteed eight years with anyone you draft. We've just finished year two. No worries.

So the Mavs need to secure Luka much like the Lakers secured Magic Johnson. 25 year contract anyone? lmao... yes, the Lakers DID sign Magic Johnson to a 25-year $25 million contract in 1981, was it?

OMG! Jazz just extended Mitchell with a 5-year $195 million contract. Mitchell was the 13th pick in the 2017 draft. This shows us that Luka is gonna get some insane contract, which he's totally worth.

only certain circumstances can players sign for five years, and four is the norm
