I would love to say 45+ but I think interior defense is going to be a problem for us while KP is out. There is no guarantee that he will remain healthy or how long it eill take for him to be 100% so my best guess with a lot unknown is 40-44 wins. If Luka can hit free throws and we close out the clutch games then we surpass that mark.

I’d say somewhere between 40-45 wins since they only play 72 games this year. Mavs barely miss out on home court advantage.

Sounds fair.
We could very possibly be fighting out of a good sized hole when KP returns. Wouldn't shock me if we have an 0-3 start. Worst case is 4-9 record.

True. I didn’t really look at our schedule when I made that prediction, but if I remember correctly we have a pretty tough schedule earlier. Factor in no KP and you’re right we might be in a hole early fighting to get back to .500

Yea. On paper its petty brutal. Even the Bulls game is in question, they seem to give us tough games like the Suns.

My predictions:
50-54 wins
Luka MVP
Dallas in conference finals lose to Lakers.
Finals Lakers vs Miami.
Lakers win the championship.
What do you think about my predictions?

I don’t think Miami makes it back to the finals. I think they got hot at the right time last year.

I don't think there's much h chance to get 50 or more wins. Who knows exactly how many games KP will miss.
Luka prob comes up just short of MVP.
Lakers may win it again, but I don't think Miami gets there.

For people predicting 50+ wins, you do remember that it's a shortened season, right? Winning 50 or more this season would be like winning 60+ in a normal season. I have a tough time believing that when it looks to me there's at least three teams ahead of us (Lakers, Clippers, Nuggets.) 45 sounds about right to me, and we should all be thrilled with that.

That, and the east got quite a bit better, it looks like. Milwaukee and Philly definitely got better, and the Nets look so far like they've got their best cast scenario- KD looks like he hasn't lost a step at all, and he and Kyrie look like they can be pretty scary together. Also, this probably isn't the most popular opinion, but I actually think Boston got better. Their young core will be better this year, but also I think they needed a quality center like Thompson more than they needed Hayward.

4 seed in west
Now playoffs
If mavs can find a pg to take some of burden of LUKA running the offense during regular season as to not run LUKA into ground and get a legit 2nd unit low post scorer and rebounding big man who can defend then going to west finals and lose to lakers.
No low post scorer or rebounder for 2nd unit lose in conference semifinals every yr until LUKA feed up and leaves for either LA OR NYC..
THERES a clock here with LUKA and I think it ends the same time as kp deal. I dont see LUKA asking for long term extension I see him doing like lebron did short term 1 or 2 yr extensions so that he can be free agent when some of his other boys are free agents as well.

I don't think a low-post scorer is much of a need for us considering how much that has been devalued in today's NBA, but I do agree that we need more defense and rebounding in the frontcourt. I'd like a versatile 3 and D big man. That's why I was hoping we could somehow get Ibaka, but alas, he of course wanted to play with his old teammate in LA.
And as I mentioned in the other thread, I agree that there is a clock with Luka, but I don't think it ends as soon as you think. I don't see Luka getting that restless by year 5 if we haven't gotten to the finals yet. Year 8, sure.

I'm keeping expectations low (40-44 wins) so that I can be pleasantly surprised

Based on what I've seen so far and taking into account KP is still going to sit most b2b games I think this team is headed to a 40-32 season unless some adjustments are made with this roster in terms of minutes being taken away from guys who are playing because of loyalty or locker room leadership as opposed to talent and production.

Its insanity that 5 people think we go over 50 wins.

Right now I'm thinking 40 wins is stretching it.

Man, we start the season with two losses
against two of the best teams in the NBA
Without KP
With a brand new starter
With a new defense
With guys out of shape from the sudden start to the season
With a very limited camp/practice schedule
Playing a gimpy Powell for his last starting minutes
And We’re suddenly barely a playoff team. This team is going to be really special. Emphasis on “going to”. They’re going to take time and Rick is like prime Pops— the team looks like crap early and blossoms after the break. We just didn’t see the blossom last year with the major injuries we had (Powell, Brunson, Doncic perpetually injured, KP, etc)

Well I just watched Houston without 6 playervs Portland play last night and they didn't look as bad as Dallas on the boards or defensively TBH.
My concerns is that KP won't fix those two issues by himself and I think they are still undermanned defensively when you have to role out Powell, Luka and THJ all on the floor together.
It's not out the realm of possibility that if KP doesn't return by mid January this team could did themselves a big hole wouldn't you agree?
Think about it Sacramento just beat a Phoenix team that the Mavs couldn't beat.
So the West looks to be really strong this year going about 10 teams deep.

Erica makes a post talking about overreacting, and drawing meaningless conclusions from two early regular season games, and the next poster immediately reinforces her point.

I want to change my prediction now
I was being generous at that time but now I predict 30 wins if the roster doesn't change.

Even worse than I expected. Mavs are still on track for the 6 choke losses, and there haven't been too many close games to choke away, :-/
Maybe they make it to 30-32 wins? RC has been tuned out. I bet the Knicks are huge RC fans this year. The icing on the non-playoff spoiled cake would be to win the draft lottery. Heh
