Jordan wins player of week honor
January 6, 2003
NEW YORK (AP) -- Michael Jordan was honored as the NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday after scoring a season-high 41 points against Indiana.
Jordan, who will be 40 next month, won the award for the first time since April 6, 1998. It was the 24th time he has won the award in his career, more than any other player.
For the week, Jordan averaged 22.3 points, 8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.25 steals as the Wizards won three of four games. He also produced his first double-double of the season, grabbing 12 rebounds in the 107-104 victory over the Pacers on Saturday.
Washington was 16-17 entering Monday night's game with Boston. Jordan is playing more than 33 minutes a game this season. He is averaging 17.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting .449.
Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks won the award in the Western Conference. He averaged 29.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.33 blocks and 1.33 steals for the week as Dallas went 2-1.

Tolbert was given a tour around the Mavs' facilities by Cuban. When they reached the pool area Cuban showed Tolbert Dirk's yellow rubber ducky in the pool.

anyone counting?
that was his ... 3rd? 4th? player of the week? ... along with 1 "team"-player of the month (with Nash and Finley)? ...
anyone having an "award" list?
ALL-2nd team 2002 isn´t that hard to remember, but ...

Dunno if this has been brought up here or not. Just wanted to mention that Dirk has been elected "European Basketball Player Of The Year" by Europe's most respected daily sports-newspaper. Here's the link for those who speak Italian

When they look at the things that justify awarding a player the MVP this has to be included. Right now if you were to ask who the MVP was going into the first half of the season, Dirk would have to be at the top of the list. Maybe Tmac, or maybe Kidd, other than that no one even comes close.........Bobby Jackson had it going until he got hurt, but oh well. Life is a bitch isn't it Sacramento???????
