just a question: How many of the top teams in college basketball run a zone defense the majority of the time?
well, truthfully, man-to-man is ran the majority of the time by the top D-1 programs.

Now, my point the zone will have an impact on the NBA, but it's not going to be as drastic as everyone is making it out to be. The good coaches will be better utilized because they'll have more defensive options to add to their arsenal of tactics. However, the strong will survive, ala shaq daddy..tim duncan...

yes, i think the zone will help the mavs, but don't look for the zone to have a huge negative impact on teams like the lakers that thrive on the one-on-one offense. shaq can still pass...he's one of the best passing centers in the NBA, so he'll be able to effectively pass in the zone.

...
but, all in all, i look for the rule changes to help the mavs a bit more than other teams...,

exactly Murph...I don't think the zone will be utilized as much as everyone seems to think. Sure, it will be deployed against the Lakeshow to TRY and contain Shaqueer Oatmeal, but otherwise, not much of a change. Hell, the mavs ran a zone most of the second half of the season. Now, it just won't be called "illegal defense" unless Bradley camps out in the lane for more than 3 seconds.

There won't be as big of a change as everyone expects...but yes, Dallas has a definate advantage b/c they have experience running it already in games, and practicing against it.
